Hello and goodbye! :(
The time has come to say goodbye.
But to say hello and to welcome something even MORE exciting.
I’d like to announce the brand new Trish Hunter Finds website, shop and a brand new BLOG! Hooray!

Firstly I'd like to say thankyou for all your years of comments, love, honesty, help, and most of all support and encouragement that's helped me get to where I am now. If I hadn't had started this blog, I doubt I'd be where I am now, so a huge thankyou to everyone who's been reading.

My new site includes my brand new blog. Everything's been combined into one webpage! It's amazing (If I do say so myself.)

It's great to be back and blogging again, I'm excited to be going back to how I used to blog when I started those three or so years ago: Anecdotes about all things vintage, funny tales from my past, stories about my life as a Vintage caravan girl, collections, and anything else that I find interesting.

It's something I've been missing a lot, as getting the caravan up and running had really taken away so much time. But now it's all up and running, I can get back to normal and start fresh again, blogging!! I have so so so many things to share!

A whole new blog!

I have some happy and sad news!

This blog that I've had since 2008 is soon going to be no longer :(
It will still be online for you to read back through, but my posts will no longer be posted here.

However!! NEVER FEAR! A whole new one is being born!

It's going to be amaaazing!
It's going to be all rolled into my new website, a fresh start, and I've already made 5 posts in it in preparation for it's launch!
However it's not online yet, so you'll have to stay tuned!

During the past year I've been such a terrible blogger, but with this new blog that's coming, I feel I have so much more to offer, as fresh starts always seem to do that, It gives you that motivation back again.
Kind of like when you buy an empty notebook, you feel the need to start something amazing. To write a novel, or draw a work of art.

That is where the next video post will be located, and that is where a lot of fabulous posts on all things vintage can be found.
Eee I can't wait to show it off already.

But it hopefully won't be too far away.

I just wanted to pre-warn you. :)

I'll be sure to let you know when it's all happening as I'm already busting at the seams!

Ok I'll stop rambling.

My first Video Blog! A tutorial on how to value your retro items!

Hello hello!

As promised here is my very first Video Blog! HOORAY!

I hope to make these reasonably regular, as spreading the word about vintage is important, and the more that you know, the better things you can find!

And how good is learning? I thrive on it, so keeping all these little secrets to myself is selfish, why not pass them onto you too!

Hopefully throughout this cringy first attempt, you'll learn something, even something really little and then I'll be one happy Lady!

The next issue? post? Uh installment? that I'm working on is all about how to tell if something is genuine or fake, original or reproduction! Fun!

I've had the greatest week!! Friday was my 26th Birthday! I had an amazing day with my wonderful and beautiful friends.

I received a really lovely present from my new friends Kylie and Lluis that I just had to share with you all.

Lluis is a super talented artist! And he gave me one of his very own creations!
It's a little story titled 'The grasshopper & the mole'
All the drawings were drawn by his genius hands and gosh it really made me feel special to receive one hot off the press!

I'd like to share it and his wonderful blog & website with you!

The travelling vintage shop warming!

Last night I celebrated amongst family and friends the launch of my caravan shop Trish Hunter Finds!

It went a little something like this...

I barely got a chance to take any photos once people started to arrive as I was way too excited showing off my new adventure! So if anyone has photos of the night I'd love to get copies! Most of these were taken prior to the night while the rain had temporarily held off, and the sun was almost shining! Hehe.

SHOP LAUNCH!! - Sunday the 15th of May - Two weeks away!

The day has finally arrived!
After a year long trial to get my shop up and running, we've finally made it! And to celebrate, I'd like to invite you all to my shop launch!
I can't believe I can actually finally do this! I've been looking forward to this day for so very long.
Sunday the 15th of May will be my very first day open and I oh so hope you can join me!
It'll all kick off in the wee hours of the morning, but I'll be open until 12:30pm! So hopefully you'll be able to stop by at some stage during the day.
Oh and don't forget to say hello and introduce yourself, as it'd be a great opportunity to meet some of the people who've kept me motivated with such lovely comments during the building of my shop!

My most favorite thing.

As a collector, the question I'm regularly asked is "What is the most favorite thing that you own?"
Throughout the years it's changed many times.
I mean, my Golly toy that I got from my Nan when I was born and who still sits on my bed will always be on the top of the list, even with the sucked off nose and the chopped off hair that occurred as it was passed down through both my sister and brother.
And then of course would come all of my precious photographs and memories.
Oh and I guess then I should say my shop would be right up there too...
But besides all of these things, I think I've figured it out.
It'd have to be my reference books. I absolutely love learning new things, never mind learning with pictures!
When I buy a new reference book, I become like a kid again, checking my mailbox like it's my birthday and I'm hoping to find a card from Grandma with $20 in it.
Except now, I do that every day. Even the day after I purchased the book because well... you never know!!!
I've been amazed at some of the lightning fast delivery times I've experienced.

Anyway...
Yesterday I ordered the most amazing book! Megan from Velour Vintage posted me a link to one listed on eBay, but I was the underbidder and missed out.
So on the hunt I went for another and I found one.
I just got the email to say that it's been shipped.
My toes are already twiddling, and I can't wait to wake up wide eyed tomorrow morning to shuffle to the mail box in my dressing gown and caravan slippers, knowing it hasn't arrived yet, but secretly hoping!

It makes the time when it arrives all the more special.

Anyway!
Here it is

L'Utopie Du Tout Plastique by Philippe Decelle, Diane Hennebert & Pierre Loze

It's a 158 page catalog published in 1994, featuring all the most amazing pieces of plastic design from the years 1960–1973.
Could there be anything more up my alley than this book?
How is it that I haven't heard of it before.
Who cares! It's on its way to my house right now yippeeeeee!

See I get very excited about reference books haha.

The caravan begins to look like a real shop!

After last weekend, the progress has been huge and it's really looking like a real shop!

So I thought I'd post a few more photos.

There's still another shelf to install where the blank white wall is, and then there's of course the major job of painting the outside.

There's a possibility that we're going to change the paint job to keeping the van pure white, with a green curved stripe instead of the opposite which was the original plan, but either way it will still look amazing.

One month-ish until we're OPEN FOR BUSINESS!

For the past year, it's been one disaster after another trying to get my shop up and running.
Would you believe I'm now up to my third caravan!
It was due to very unfortunate circumstances that the custom built van had to be put aside, however shortly afterward, this darling round Franklin Regent 12 foot caravan was listed on eBay and I knew it had to be mine.

It's certainly been a mission getting it organised so quickly.
My amazingly handy Dad has been invaluable through all this.
He's been living, breathing, dreaming and existing for my caravan, getting it ready for me before my market debut.
I can't believe how lucky I am.
Don't get me wrong, I haven't left him to do all the hard work, I've been right in there getting stuck in.

There's been nothing glamorous about the process.
We've been pulling out and replacing rotten wood, pouring glue remover gunk on the floor and scraping it all up, getting giant splinters in hands, Lots of sanding, ripping and tearing, re-skinning the walls and floor, getting eaten by mosquitos, we even had to DIY a crane on Dads roof to winch the fridge out of the van's skylight as it was build into the van.
Our blood, sweat and a lot of my tears have gone into this project haha.

The inside is one or two weekends off being mostly completed, and then we just have the outside to paint (Which is a mission in itself... a scary one at that)

This is the large display bench that goes across the back of the van.
It has display holes underneath for more stock.

This is the beginning of a set of graduated sized shelves.
Each shelf will sit flush with the bottom of each circle.

This is the end where a clothes rack will be built in across the end.
It will be full of fabulous vintage frocks during the warmer months, and deliciously warm coats during the cooler.

It's the little touches that make all the difference.
Skirting boards to give that homely touch, and chrome edging to tidy up joins.

I'm going back to Marysville again this weekend to get it to the next stage!

We are aiming for a May grand opening, It's currently on schedule, but there's a possibility it may run into a couple weeks of June.
Either way it's not far away at all! Yipeee.

Happy Happy Christmas!

Yeee it's that time of the year again!
However this year, we're blessed with a big change!

While most Christmases we remember being dressed in our best, stuck to a vinyl car seat with the windows wound all the way down hoping we don't sweat off our makeup on the 40 degree day.

This Christmas, the weather man today announced that there is a possibility of having that Christmas we have all dreamed of and lusted after, while watching those classic Christmas movies like A Mom for Christmas, and National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. Yes Classics :)

Yes this year in Melbourne, there is said to be A WHITE CHRISTMAS. *Cue Bing Crosby*
For years we have sadly turned down those kitsch and fabulous Christmas jumpers we've seen in the Opshops.
We even invented Christmas in July, just so we can live the dream out that festive wintery dream.
But no matter how much tinsel we used, or carols we played, we still knew it wasn't quite the real thing.

Everything has changed this year, and lets all hope that just this once, Melbourne's mother nature does us proud, sticks by it's forecast and brings us a Christmas where we can wear a wintery hat, light a fire, drink hot cocoa, and make SNOWMEN! Well ok, even just a light sprinkle across the ground will do, snowmen are a little optimistic.

And the new year! Oh what a fabulous year 2011 will be.
Finally the Trish Hunter Finds traveling boutique will be open for business.
The Camberwell stalls have been booked as of March so it's official!
I've included a few photos with how it's coming along. :)
It's all getting a bit exciting now, and very very real.

I shall keep you posted with it's progression as it's happening so quickly now!

Oh the image posted at the top is a Christmas card that I received from a friend this year. Isn't it lovely? A thrift store in the UK makes them. What a great idea.

A quick update...

Hello all my long lost blog readers. Long time no post!
Thanks so much for not de-reading me!

I've been absent due to the planning of my traveling shop!
There's been a bit of a disaster and will take a little longer than expected, but we're hoping it won't be too long! I'm still hecticly planning everything from curtains to signwriting, and trying to keep the website up to date with new stock for you to view in the mean time.
So the blogging side of life has been as they say, 'put on the back burner' until well, my next blog which will hopefully be a big and exciting one saying something along the lines of "YOU'RE INVITED TO MY SHOP OPENING!!!"
In the mean time I do hope you'll join my facebook page for more frequent updates, news and mini posts :)

I do however have one find to show you before I go.

A while ago I showed you my tin toy dolls house made by Mettoy.

It is still one of my favorite things and brings me so much pleasure to look at!
I couldn't tell you what it is that makes me so happy, as I've never been a doll kind of person, but it just does.

Just the other day I found an accompaniment to it.
It now makes me double as happy.

It's a 1950's tin toy garage!! Aargh!
A perfect home to house my new caravan collecting addiction.
I lovvve it.

Anwyay I'm off to go and pack my car for Camberwell Market tomorrow crack of dawn morning. I hope to see some of your lovely faces there for some donut eating and bargain finding good times!

I'll have a car completely full of 60's/70's collectables and kitchenalia mostly around the $10 mark, so if you aren't too hungover, or snuggled up warm in bed, stop by and say hello :)

Storage and Display

Hi guys!
Something that's been lacking at my place of late is storage/organisation and display.
I've said a trillion times that display is one of my favorite things, but due to dealing with so much shop stock, it's been filling my house to the brim, crowding and hiding all my little displays that keep me so happy.

So today I got stuck in, and brought back some pretty displays with the things that I love, and finally got my bursting at the seams bookshelf into some kind of order, and did a sad cull of a whole TWO BOOKS!! I couldn't dare part with anymore.

I took a few pictures of a few of my more happy looking displays :)

My Kitsch shelf was something that needed some serious attention.
One small shelf was jam packed with my little japanese figures, some were even dangerously stacked! Eek.
The art glass shelf has now turned into a zoo of china :)

And lastly that reference bookshelf. Books were seriously jammed in any gap possible and were so unorganized it was stopping me reading as taking out one book was so much of a chore. Finally, I have a Fashion shelf, a Collectables reference shelf, an art section, a Vintage house decorating/interior design section, and lastly a Frankie Magazine section. My newest book is called 'Antique Dealer' published in the 50's. That should be an interesting read.

Ch-ch-Changes!

What a busy couple of weeks it's been! More busy than my normal busy which is busy busy busy! Aargh!
I've done a whole lot of re-designing in preparation for the shop!
There's a brand new website, a brand new shop and a brand new look!
All a little exciting, and nice to see something fresh.

Giant, huge, enormous apologies for the lack of posts and comments and readings, but once the craziness of opening up shop has happened, I can hopefully relax a little and keep you all posted with heaps of fun photos and updates that I've oh so missed posting!

Today I got a delivery of my re-useable purple tote bags which are lots of fun and started to make me feel all shoppy. It's hard to feel like it's actually all happening when I don't have anything physical infront of me to work with.
Lucky I have the shop designer himself sending me regular photos of how it's coming along or I'd go a little more batty I think!

I'd like you to meet the newest member of the Hunter family :)
This is Betty!

Just look at that face would you!

She was rescued by 'The Animal Rehoming Service' or TARS which is a non profit animal rescue service in Melbourne, who does an amazing job rescuing neglected animals and finding them great homes.

She's had a hard life, but it all got better when TARS rescued her from a bad home, and fostered her out to the owners of Fat Helens Vintage shop on Chapel St.
Helen and her Family did the most amazing job bringing back Betty's personality (and boy does she have one!), giving her a loving home, and doing so until the right person was ready to adopt her.

I think it was meant to be!
I mean a dog brought up in a Vintage shop? Surely she'll fit right in at my home :)
And she does. She's currently sprawled out on the floor like she's been here for years, and this is only day two!

We had the most fun game of fetch earlier. She gets so excited runs on her hind legs, smiling away, darting after the ball like her life depends on it! What a darling dog.

If you have time, space, and a heart filled with love to give, call TARS, or go to any dog shelter/pound and adopt a dog who really needs a home. And don't just think about puppies, adopt a dog! They have just as much love, and they're often already trained and ready to go!

Next week Betty and I will be heading out on our first opshopping trip! I can't wait.

Somethings Brewing!!

You may have noticed I've been rather absent in the blogosphere as of late!
But I have a very good reason!
This time for real, I'm opening a SHOP!!!
I've signed the papers, I get to start working on it in a couple of weeks (It's going to be a lonnnng two weeks)
And I will be open hopefully in 4ish months.
I can't say much more than that just yet!
But as soon as I can, you'll know every itty bitty detail including where I'll be, and most importantly WHEN!
I can't wait for you all to visit me! It's been my dream for yeaaaaars!
I almost can't believe it's actually happening!
I bought a clothing steamer today and I was such a giddy dork! But I just felt like it was making it all the more real!
It's so hard to believe that you're getting a shop when you don't actually have it to stand in and work on!
All I want to do is design it! Pick paint colours etc... but I can't and its KILLING ME!
Soon Trish... Soon!
Ok I better go before I explode with excitement.

I've also started a secret blog with all the shops beginnings posted. I'll share it with you all when I can!!

Ok time to go and cuddle the hot water bottle. Brr its that time of year isn't it!

Our house!

Is going to be a very very very fine house.

I've had a few people email me asking about how Marysville is going and how the house is coming along, but until today I honestly haven't known.
I have heard bits and pieces, but until today, I was still quite uncomfortable about it, and had imagined that seeing something there that isn't my house would upset me more than not having that image in my head. So I separated myself from it.
Anyway, I was talking to Dad today and he mentioned again that I should come down and check out the new house. He sounds quite proud of it!
But still hesitant, I suggested perhaps he send me a few pics.
I'm so glad he did, because it was actually quite a relief.
I too was proud of it. I never thought I would be. It's cute, and quaint, and isn't some unhomely modern Ikea house that I imagined and secretly resented. Which was silly as I hadn't even seen it.
Anyway.... I thought I'd share the pics because it's an exciting step forward for our Family, Dad, Marysville, and a massive change in view for me.
I'm ready to go back again now, and it's SO nice to say that confidently.
I've felt so guilty for avoiding it.

What I found at Camberwell Market.

When most people come home from a shopping trip at Camberwell Market, I'm sure they don't come home with anything like I did.
Perhaps they found a cute handbag, A pretty vintage frock, or maybe that one piece of their collection they'd been missing.
Or, maybe they found...

A giant lion costume!

(I'm actually pose roaring underneath!! How stupid.)

How could I not buy this? It was amazing!
I do love oversized things. They just appeal to me for some reason.
Perhaps its because I've got no room to put them. Gr.
A few months ago, I desperately wanted a giant fibreglass shark mouth (Like luna park but smaller and sharkier) from the top of a fish and chip shop in Perth. I'm so lucky the courier was too expensive or I sooo would have bid!
I had dreams of turning it into a table to put in my shop, or maybe just putting it on the roof of my one day to be shop to get some attention.
Ah well, it wasn't meant to be.
Anyway, when this was hanging over a rail, I was amazed it hadn't been bought!
So off I walked with a giant Lion.
Its times like this I'm lucky I don't have a husband or family to come home to. Or this would definitely have been one of those shaking head moments ahha.

Anyway, despite the pouring rain, and gale-force winds it was fantastic day at Camberwell!! (I really should have just worn the lion costume. I would have been much warmer.)
Here's my stall before it was blown away.

By the end of the day I'd given up tidying it up and just left it like a cyclone had passed through.

I looked at myself in the mirror of the car after I'd packed up and my gosh I wish someone had told me I looked like a cyclone had hit ME!
My makeup was panda, my fringe looked crimped? And I don't even have curly hair!? I was a mess hahaha. It was rather comical.

Ok in other news, I haven't put much in my shop of late as I've been super busy, but I've got SO SO SO many things to come!
Like, my list has 36 items to photograph, and that includes the word 'hats, and furs' which in itself there's heaps of each! So urhghh where to start!
Here's just a preview of some of the things!

Possibly the most amazing fully beaded top in the whole wide world. Brand new with tags, so intricate and heavy! Full night scene that goes from front to back and has arm tassels! Pwoah!

My gosh and there's so so much more! That was just what I could quickly find! The list is huge!

Also, I got a part time job at a brand new Retro/Collectables shop opening up this month in Montmorency!! (Greensborough/Eltham area) I hope you'll all come out, stop by and pick up some fabulous treasures!! It's right opposite the train station so its easy to find!

As you may know I've become a monthly contributor for brand new online magazine "A New Muse".
I was asked today to send through a childhood photograph of myself, with a short description of what inspires me, for their contributors page.

I thought writing what inspired me would be super easy, as I'm so often inspired, and love so many things!
I was wrong. I couldn't pinpoint one thing!

I was stumped. What gives me that inspiring itch?
I know when I'm inspired my toes twiddle, and I get this tightness in my chest that makes me feel I need to do something RIGHT NOW! and I usually do.
I've always been a NOW person. So very impulsive. But I have to do it now, because thats when I'm inspired right?
But what are these inspirations that cause these feelings?
I found it so hard to describe!
So as I sat here in front of my empty Microsoft Word page feeling a little silly that I had no idea how my own brain worked, I started to get bored and look around.
And then my toes twiddled. I was inspired about something.
So I focused in on exactly what was going on and my fingers couldn't type quicker.

"I'm inspired when I see a gap in life that I can get excited to fill...
...and then it snowballs.
A mannequin without a hat leads to -
This mannequin needs a hat.
But what kind of hat?
Maybe I could make a hat!
I could be a hat maker.
Ok so I need a hat block.
I'm off to go shopping for some fabric,
and I better drag out my sewing machine.
The hat may end up being a complete failure, and the mannequin may end up wearing a funky vintage hat I picked up along the learning experience.
But I learned I can't make hats, and the mannequin has some head wear, so my inspiration was fulfilled.
I get many of these inspirations every day.
I love them."

I realised I can't put my inspiration in dot points.
Its like everything I type. A story.

I absolutely loved writing this!
Doing so, was really quite inspiring to myself in itself!
It actually really summed up me, and how I work!
I've never had to try to explain how I work and that is exactly it!
It can be used as a metaphor for so many things that I do.
I have no idea if this makes sense to anyone, but it really did something beneficial to me by writing this, and so I had to try and share.

Trish Hunter Finds is Front Page News! Eeeeeee!

After a night of tears from 'car on deaths door' troubles, (He's at the repair man now :( fingers crossed he'll come out alive.) All was forgotten when an email arrived in my inbox this morning with a copy of the article coming out in 6 of Melbourne's newspapers and magazines, as I mentioned a few blogs ago.
Six! WOW!
And one of them is on the FRONT COVER! Wahhhh!
As I stared at myself on the computer it was a very, dare I say it... 'surreal' moment.

I started this blog as a hobby to share with you my opshop finds.
I had one follower and I was like woooo! then two, then 10, and I was thinking 'Wew 10 people read my blog, this is SO COOL!'
It later blossomed into an online shop that I love and am so proud of, and now I'm in these well known Melbourne newspapers, for doing something that I love, am passionate about, and hope to do until I'm an old crabby shop lady, with brightly dyed hair, who wears outfits that kids photograph with whatever phones are invented then, to send to their friends of the crazy Nanna walking down the street.
There's a lot more than 10 people reading these newspapers, so overwhelmed, excited, and proud are understated feelings I'm experiencing at the moment.

Ok enough blabber, here it is!

I'd like to quickly say a massive thanks to those who initially inspired me to start my blog, to people who have read my ramble from the very beginning, and those who might have just found me, a big big HUGE thankyou! :) And I hope you continue to do so.

Sneaky peek!

Well that's the line I always used to say when Rizzo brought out the wine at the slumber party in Grease.
Quite wrong, It's "a little Sneaky Pete" but it came to my head when I titled this blog.

Anyhoo, I've just been tagging my new stock for the next Camberwell Market stall I'm having.

I know I'm definitely having one on May 4th, but there may also be another earlier surprise. I'll find that out tomorrow night and let you know!

Anyway here's a 'Sneaky Pete' of some of the boots and shoes that will be available!

They're all leather, all Vintage, and there's some darn cool ones! Yay!

In other shoe news, I always get the Australian Collectables Trader magazine, and this edition included a feature on Beth Levine.
She created some of the most crazy shoes of the 20th Century!
This amazing lady introduced the Stiletto in 1951, a year before Cristian Dior and called it 'The String Bean Heal'
Some of the shoes in this article are incredible! I had to share!

This 'Race car shoe' was created in 1965 - PWOAH!

And here is the 'Paper Twist' made in 1966.

I'm in complete shoe heaven here!

Thats not the only reason I've been in heaven.
Look what I found today!!!!!!

Hii!
Gosh what a week I've had!
I got one of the last dream items on my list of dream items.
The GEC WELTRON 2007 model. The ultimate item in the Retro world.
It is often called a Space ship or UFO due to its space age design.
It's just absolutely fabbbulous!
The sound is outstanding! Its fantastic and plastic (My two favorite things) And the wait is now over! I have my very own!

There she is!

My first record choice was "Lets have a party!"

A 60's mix of wacky tunes including show tunes merged in with popular tracks. Its fantastic. I only bought it because of the cover, but seeing as there was a party in my stomach due to the overwhelming excitement of actually owning one of these machines, I thought it was an appropriate LP Choice.

In other news, A New Muse has launched their brand new online magazine that is regularly updated with fantastic fashion blogs, articles, interviews and more! And they've ever so kindly asked me to be a features writer! My first article was released yesterday! It's about another of my favorite things... Kitsch! Here's the link, check it out when you get a chance, and also of course, the rest of the fantastic site!
A New Muse supports local and upcoming labels, artists and more, and is currently taking art, fashion and written submissions! :)
I'm so excited to be a part of this!

Yesterday I had a surprise Camberwell Market stall! A friend had a free space so I jumped at the chance as I still hadn't emptied my car from last time, (laaaaazy) and had already gathered a HEAP of fabulous leather bags/boots etc so it was just PERFECT!

I took a couple of pics this time!...

It was a heap of fun! I saw heaps of friends and faces I haven't seen in SO long!! The weather held tight until packup time, and there was a great atmosphere :)

I also got the opportunity to go for a shop while a friend who I was sharing the stall with so very generously manned it for me!

I picked up a few goodies for myself actually! (Says she who in her previous post said she rarely buys herself things! tsk tsk)

How could I resist?

How just absolutely LOVELY is this 20's/30's Foley teapot? Look at those little pixies/elves dancing around in their little teapot garden.

I actually bought this off the friend I was sharing the stall with! I can't resist a tacky video game! Its called "Torpedo Terror" A wind up one where you flick the switch and shoot the ships! (Terrifying stuff) It'll be in the video game section of my shop soon with all the info on it! Too cool.

I got a couple of reference books including Celluloid Dolls, and Clarice Cliff

AND!

I figured since I've been selling so many of my own clothes, I deserve some new frocks for myself... Its hard to come by pretty cotton dresses with good patterns. They're always polyester so I couldn't resist these.

This one is adorable. It has a metal zip down the side, velvet trim to the waist, and comes complete with its original swing tag. So lovely

The pattern on this is fantastic but it really didn't show up in the photos. I'll wear it soon and show you. Its very very bright and flower power!

Well, I've been up since 3:45am this morning and I'm swapping over open eyes just to try and finish this off!
So GOODNIIGGGGGHT!!! :)

My first Trish Hunter Finds Interview!

Hii!
I'd like to share my exciting news! I've just been interviewed for a feature article on opshopping, living frugally, and buying second hand.
The article will be published in 6 Melbourne newspapers including the Melbourne Times and the Melbourne Weekly, and will also be available to read online the first week after Easter! (Whenever Easter is.)
I'm so excited. The photographer came to my house today and took photos of myself and my finds. It was pretty strange!
I'm so used to setting up the tripod on a timer, running back to position, then running back again to look at it, and repeating the above steps.
It was so different, and kind of awkward to actually have someone else taking the photos. I'm so comfortable in front of the camera when it's just me and the Canon, but when there's another person watching me pose, I go all funny, so who knows how the pics will turn out.
Anyway, I wanted to give you the heads up so you can keep your eyes out for it :)
Unlike last time when MX interviewed me about the Logies and the article came out the same day, a lot of people missed it, even I nearly did, as I was working! My Mum even had to go through a bin to try and find one hahaha.
So yep, that's my news :):) Eeee
Lets just hope I don't sound like a goof hahaha

A new collection!

Collecting 'Retro' is something I've been doing for years now.
It's bright, happy, and colourful and I love coming home to such a playful retro house.
But there comes a time with any collection where you have to decide where it will end.
And then I realised I don't even have a collection.
Most things go straight to the shop, or packed away for when I have a real shop.
This made me think I had to find one thing that I can collect for myself.
I rarely buy anything for myself, so I did need something specific that I can allow myself to buy when I stumble across one, without feeling guilty. Something I can get excited about purchasing for me, and not have to have the talk with myself whether I can put it up for sale or not.
When it does come to buying myself things, I put myself last. I can justify leaving something in a shop if it's just for me, but if it's for my shop, I have no guilt in purchasing it.
I'm one of those people that get by carrying around an overnight bag with a busted zip, one handle's fallen off, and the other well on its way. And even then I still can't buy a new one, because this one is doing the job!
If I can get by using it, (even just) why buy another? And even when its time to purchase another, I can't just buy any old bag, I have to wait and find the right one which could take months, or years!
Anyway enough drivel, I've decided what I want to collect, for myself.

I collect West German vases. Woo!
They are so aesthetically pleasing to me, still affordable, and still able to be found. I didn't realise I had so many! I've been not knowingly collecting them.
Until I put them all together I thought I had to start my collection from almost scratch!
Anyway they make me happy, and I'll keep you posted with new additions to my collection :)

Earlier I mentioned about a broken overnight bag.
My bag was completely gone. haha. One handle was gone, the other was hanging by a thread. But it still held stuff really well! Anyway I was in one of my local opshops the other day and picked up a replacement bag. I think even the gods were trying to tell me its time to let go.

It's a beautiful Leather Gladstone bag with imprinted reptile skin detail. I'm more than happy to dispose of my well loved bag for such a lovely new one.

I bought these off eBay last week.. I love display so I just had to get them!

I think there's about 9 or so of them from about 1953 through to 1957.
They're such great inspiration! They're Display World catalogs absolutely full of window display, merchandise, amazing ads and beautiful clothing.

And I bought this yesterday.

I payed a fair bit for it, as Milkbars are one of my all time favorite things.
Little lurky backstreet ones are my favorite. They give me nostalgic goosebumps everytime I pass one. There's just something about them!
The signage in the front, the smell, everything. So I couldn't pass up this "Australian Soda Fountain & Milk Bar Practice" from 1940.
I can't imagine anything like this being written now days.
The fact that this book has even been written is a perfect example about how times have changed.
Chapters include Making Icecream, The "Artistic" Side of Fountain Service, Preparing for Hot Drink Trade, and Sundaes: Desserts: Parfaits: "Specials"
I love it!

And lastly, a few oddments I have picked up over the past week

How freaky is the doll on the right? Love it!
And that cat painting has something wacky about it too.
The Panda cookie jar will be for sale super soon!

And very very lastly May 2nd is my next Camby stall! :)

Spotty!

I've become obsessed.
Well I always go through little obsessions.
Some might call them fazes, and that they're a part of growing up and finding yourself etc etc, but I know who I am. I just like stuff, and then I don't anymore, and then I like it again... and when I'm liking it, I really like it and that's where the little obsession part comes into it.
At the moment it's spots.
I had the spot obsession about 5 years ago where everything had to be spotty, but this time it's a lot worse.
It all started with this dress I bought at Camberwell Market last time I was... supposedly selling there haha (Bought about as much as I sold eep!)
Anyway... here's the dress

Ok no I'm going to back track... It didn't start there.
It was brewing for a while but that dress purchase is what made me go 'Oooh obsessive time'
Ok forward track, so I do remember going back to my stall where I left my poor male 'clothing non-lover especially when they're dresses' friend while I went shopping, and said, 'from now on all I want to wear is spots.'
See the freaky obcessiveness come out.
That did quickly change when I left him there again to go shopping and bought a paisley and a floral dress, but the desperate need to go home and throw out all my clothes that weren't spotty away was itching me! Tad extreme.
So a couple of days later I get home and I didn't throw out all non spotty clothes like I stupidly thought, but I decided to do a massive clearout and keep only in my wardrobe dresses that fit properly, don't need a belt to make it fit, aren't too short, and that are spotty or me.
This left me with a MASSIVE clear out pile to take to Camby this Sun the 14th!
There's jumpsuits, Sailor dresses, Mini dresses, Florals, Kaftans, omg just everything that doesn't fit in my categories anymore.
So yeh you can nab a whole lot of stuff if you come by!!
um, And, It turns out I have 12 spotty dresses :) and they make me feel so very me, and very happy.
That was a very long story that I'm sure doesn't make much sense and perhaps makes me appear a little crazy, but that's okay because I am a little crazy, and I quite my enjoy spontaneous changes, extremes and obsessions.

Obsessions are actually how I learn the best.
When I get hooked on something I need to know everything about it! For example my mannequin obsession not long ago that I'm almost over as I got my fix, you could ask me anything about mannequins and I could tell you! Average eBay sale price? When Plastic mannequins were invented, What sort of mannequins sell clothing the best? It's a bit odd, but I like it because then I learn lots.
That all started because I bought one. And if I hadn't bought one, I wouldn't have started to explore all there is to know about them.

Hmm

So today I went to 25 opshops.
I bought the cooooolest pair of shoes ever I just have to show you!

They're Italian 70's platformy shoes that are craaazy cool!!
Theres a little bit of damage on the yellow bit (boo) but they'll still do the trick with some outfit one day.

And this is actually for sale in my shop at the moment but I just got way too much joy out of him that I had to share

So I've never seen a Rocky movie, (don't judge, I just haven't got around to it! I'm put through UFC weekly and that's enough for me (I do kind of like it though but don't tell the bf or I can't guilt him into flick chicks)

Anyway, I bought this rocky boxing puppet and he's SOOOO COOL!!! Omg there's not really much else to say! He was attached to my hand for a very long time and it didn't get old! There were some really bad sound effects yes.

Ok that can be all for today! I'm in a bit of a funny rambly mood hmm.

Ooh I haven't had dinner!!! It's 9pm!

Off I go!

Oh no wait!! Has anyone tried those mini creme eggs? I've turned my nose up to them for yeaars, as I've always been loyal to those big massive sweet gooey mmm ones.
But then the other day at my cousins house I had one (10) and I haven't gone back!!
They're dreamy! You can suck them until they collapse in your mouth and all the icingy stuff just is soooo good.

Had to share that as you shouldn't hold back if you too are loyal to the biggies.
I actually thought I'd be ripped off by buying mini ones as there's not much in them, but they still have the white and yellow eggy bit, and they're jsut as good, but just a bit different.

Camberwell Market TOMORROW!!

Hi hi!!
There's a lovely cool change that's just come through Melbourne.
I have no doubt it's thanks to me haha, see I'm having a stall at Camberwell market tomorrow, so naturally, the weather packed up his happy sun rays and decided to go on holidays.
But it'll still be worth the trek out! :)

I've spent the day sorting out more and more clothes to bring.
So I've decided there'll only be two prices, $10 and $15 for all clothing to make everything nice and easy.

It's an early morning for stall holders, I have to be up at 4.... FOUR!!!

The Ball Chair by Aarnio Eero

It's been one of those items that was only seen in my dreams and in movies.
The ball chair, originally designed by Aarnio Eero in 1963.
It is considered a classic of industrial design, and definitely that key retro item any retro enthusiast NEEDS, and I definitely mean NEEDS in their home.
You've probably seen it in heaps of period science-fiction films and tv shows including The Prisoner, Mars Attacks, Men in Black, Dazed and Confused etc etc.
I've been bidding on the reproductions of this fabulous, amazing, crazy cool chair for almost half a year on eBay but always missing out. Which was fine, as I'm not exactly in the financial situation to pay $700 minimum on a chair.
Perhaps if I had nothing to sit on I'd consider it, but in my living space alone I have 5 separate chairs/couches/lounges, so there wasn't any way to justify it.
Anyway
So continuing my eBay trawling, I waited it out until the day came where a second hand one came up!! The last time I saw a second hand one was about 3 years ago in Sydney that I had a crack at, but courier costs meant I couldn't go very high and naturally missed out.
This one however was in Melbourne. I was beside myself with nervous excitement.
This chair would be mine!

AND IT IS!! I was the successful bidder, and finally, the ball chair is mine!

I couldn't wait to get it home, but I had to.
A whole days worth of moving the house around to try to find room for it was called for.
And then when I saw it, it was significantly bigger than I had imagined.
Especially considering it spins 360 degrees so space is needed all around it.
My bf who handily owns a van (Which gives me the opportunities to purchase rather large items that wouldn't normally fit in my little blue car.... Not the best thing to take advantage of considering the size of my tiny little unit) helped me figure out the best place for it, and there it stays!!

It's freaky sitting inside. Because of the fiberglass outer, and the spherical shape, it blocks out noise from the outside and your own voice sounds like your ears need to pop, but it's not a bad feeling. It definitely provides exactly what Aarnio set out to achieve in his original design brief - to create a “room within a room”

I'm in love.

The other thing I bought for myself was yesterday and omgosh they're TOO CUTE!!!

Little vintage glass animals including a little bambi deer, a giraffe, poodle, strange bears, and a meow cat! The lady in the opshop knocked them over twice with clothing I was buying and oh my heart raced for their poor fragile glass legs, but they were okay! fewf!

I'm currently organising another load of items to list in my store!
They'll be up by Sunday night the very latest!
Some items include: Poole pottery, Atari console & games, Pepsi ice bucket, McLaren S&P Shakers, Bambi Cookie Jars, Robert Indiana original screen print, Per Lutkin Holmegaard art glass vase, Suzie Cooper tea cups and saucers, 60's vase, ET Memorabilia, Gremlins Memorabilia, Rosti style lime green mixing bowls, Ellis Hedgehog moneybox, Girls & Gags gents mags, and more!!
Oh and I just picked up some early Playboy Mags with their Varga girls still attached, so they'll be up in the next next load!

AND

Lastly!! Don't forget I'm having a stall at Camberwell on the 28th of Feb! Everything's Vintage and pretty much everything's resellable if you're into your eBay or have a shop, but it just basically means its all pretty good stuff.
All $10 - $20 so woo!

Super quick update post!

First of all, I have an OUTFIT to show you! Hooray! I've been pretty slack with outfit posts of late.
But here's one... We had a retro theme to attend on Thursday night, (Right up my alley woo!) This is what I wore

Agent 99 from Get Smart is the only person I can remember being told I resemble, and therefore became my facebook Doppelgänger haha.
Then after wearing this outfit, everyone seemed to be saying I look like her. I don't see it. Just perhaps the hair! :)
I'm loving Doppelgänger week!
So many people look like So many people! my gosh!

So, I have to mention I just put up 32 items into my shop! YAY!! I'm so proud!
There's some reallllly cool bits at there at the moment including, Bitossi, Mushroom lamps, Gunda, West German, Kitsch Prints, 80's Games, Risque Calendars, Beswick, POLAROID Camera, LP Records, Ellis Pottery, 50's hand painted Wall Chargers, the list goes on!

In other news, I'm having another Camberwell Market Stall on Sunday the 28th of February (Last day of the Month)
I'll be in the same place as last time in the undercover walkway down the middle.

The quality and quantity of clothing will be definitely worth coming for, everything will be hung as there's some cool stuff!
All clothing will be between $10 and $20! and there's HEAPS OF IT!!!
I have 2 and a half of those giant huge massive checkered zip up storage bags FULL to the point they're barely unliftable of good Vintage clothes!!
Massive clear out going on here my GOSH!

Lastly A big thanks to the people who've emailed their love with the Anniversary of Black Saturday coming up. They've been just lovely and so thoughtful! :)
I am a bit nervous about it, I wasn't sure what I was going to do, but I decided not to go back as I'm still not comfortable doing so. Instead I plan on having a happy day, as there's been enough tears. I want to remember the good bits, and the good times! So I'm treating myself to Markets, a nice quiet lunch, possibly a movie! (I haven't been to the cinema in... years!) and of course takeaway dinner! No cooking :)

A beautiful book

Yesterday I nicked into a few of my regular opshops, and found the most beautiful book.
I have a few Home Decorator books from the 60's and 70's, but this one is the cream of the crop!
I always look out for them, as their furniture, design, lighting, wallpapers and arrangements are all so well done and interesting.
It is titled 'Modern Interiors Today and Tomorrow' and was written by Emily Genauer.

The book was published in 1942, however most of the images are from 1939.
It's just beautiful and makes me so happy to read.
It's hard fabric cover lets you know you're holding something precious.

Here are some pics from throughout.

Chairs are my favorite of all Vintage furniture. They are so very stylish. I only wish I had room to fill my house with chairs.

Market on the weekend was terrrrrible! Those who also went would have seen the trestle tables being blown completely over, clothing racks breaking and falling over, and stall holders draping themselves over their belongings fearful the wind will ruin their items. I felt so sorry for them, and many of them felt sorry for me!
I wore the wrong outfit.
I am certain most people at that market had copped a glimpse of my undies. I wore a dress with a circle skirt (which catch the smallest wind never mind the biggest.)
It was a disaster. It was so ridiculous I ended up giving up trying to hold it down. I tucked it in my undies (It couldn't possibly look worse than the other view..) and proceeded to ask stall holders if they had any elastic bands I could use to gather the skirt tight on either side. No one seemed to have any, but one lady had masking tape, and proceeded to tape my dress to my legs. That ended up being hard to walk, so I taped the skirt together to make it tight and not pick up wind. The weight of it seemed to work much better, and the looks I was copping I could cope with because it wasn't for ugly reasons haha.
I also ran into a friend who brought down his guitar to have an early morning busk session! I hadn't seen him in ages which was a nice way to end the tornado of a day!

Another thing I bought I got off eBay! It's this fabulous turquoise Mushroom lamp! It's in fabulous condition! and is one of the over 10 lamps in my house that actually have a working globe in it, so will get some good use! I always forget to buy them at coles, I think it's just in the wrong isle! If they were put next to the sticky date pudding I might remember.

I'm currently working on getting some new things in store.
I've put together about 15 collectables ready to go, I just want a few more :)
I'll let you know when they're all up and buyable!

Fabulous Fryerstown

Hi :)
Last week the Fryerstown Annual Antique fair was held down Bendigo way. It's the biggest antique / collectables fair in Australia!
It was so exciting. A group of us drove down, and gosh it was fantastic!
It's out in the middle of a desert like dusty Paddock, (Check out the colour of my feet! Thongs were a bad choice.)

There's hundreds of shop like stalls that set up their amazing wares for up to 5 days.
There's everything from Antique dolls, to Retro Canisters. It's not exactly the place to find a bargain, as the traders know their stuff and their prices. But as a collector, you are almost guaranteed to see numerous items that fit your collection whatever it be, and are happy to pay for.
It was just great to see so many quality goods in one place!
It's also a great learning place too if you want to actually pick up something you've only seen a picture of in a book and feel what it's actually like, it's weight, size etc.
Your body wanted to split in every direction and you had no idea where to start looking!
You couldn't allow yourself to spend your money at the start in fear you'd find something good at the end and couldn't afford it! So you actually couldn't go overboard in spending!
I did pick up a few things. It was impossible to leave without something!

I bought 3 fabulous hats! The last one makes my coke container look like a Coke Slurpee haha.

And also the lampshade to the right!

That night as exhausted as I was, I went and saw my favorite band Camera Obscura with two of my Cousins.
They were great! The first band 'Slow Club' were AMAZING live! I had never heard of them before. But it's the only 'Special Guests' band I've ever seen that got as much attention as the main act! The crowd became massive, and when they had to play an unplugged accoustic, the full venue was silent to try and hear.
Everyone was laughing with them, clapping, dancing, they were so funny, cute and brilliant live!! I had to buy their album, and though it wasn't as good as they were live (rare hey!) it's still pretty good!! Check out their youtubes because they're definitely worth a watch.

I picked up some other goodies during the week too...

You saw it earlier as my new hat stand haha, it's a Coca-Cola Straw Dispenser! I thought it was awesome. No idea what I'll do with it yet, but it works perfectly for hat display so far!

Oh my gosh my FAVORITE little cutie pixie/elf! I just want to squeeze his little porcelain cheeks!

2 Pair of Cat Eye glasses with lovely frames! Both in their original cases with the previous owners name and address all attached to the inside.

1974 Glamour Girl Nudie Calendar for Mayfair Magazine. Pretty cool! I also got two from 1980, but this one was the best!

On the nudie note, I also picked up this fab dish!

An original vintage 'I'm with Stupid' Badge. This is my favorite of all my Badges.

I've been searching for one of these style jackets for well over a year, and I just happened to find two, in completely different places, in the period of a week. The other's the same but brown! I can't wait for winter!

And lastly, my favorite piece... A Robert Indiana screen print of his most well known Pop Art Pieces 'Love' signed with a facsimile signature (Which means it's still original, but produced after 1980.)
I love it!! It suits my house so so much!! And makes me happy to look at it!

A bit of a scratch

Hi hi!
Just a quick post to show you some bits and bobs :)

I went opshopping the other day and saw this odd black blob of a vase.
I picked it up and it was glass!
I turned it around in my hand and saw a scratch revealing a lone white line and a glimpse of green!! I scratched a little further and saw it was a pretty retro art glass vase underneath this paint. So I bought it as a project.
I rubbed at it with metho and out came this beautiful green and white smokey art glass vase! Yay!

And the final product! Big difference!

Vintage Bradley style stockinette dolls. The big ones at the back turn and play music, but the front little angels are just cute.

Speaking of cute..

This little hanging plastic ballerina doll. May possibly come across as creepy but I love her! She's hanging from my Tv arial.

I got this Macaulay Culkin screaming doll for $1 at market on the weekend. AHHHHH!

I've never filled a diary, or a piggy bank, but I can say I've filled something!
My gumball machine is now filled with badges from the 60's to the 80's! I love it!

I'm loving my little wooden shelf at the moment. I've just rearranged my West German Vase collection which makes me pretty happy. They're so colourful!

And just below are my kitsch little figures that I've been slowly adding to. You'll probably notice some newys.

I also got this Mimi spirit looking retro girl Signed and dated 1966

Lastly is this boxed Vintage Slinky Seal pull along toy!
Before the Slinky dog from Toystory, there was Slinky Seal! The name's James apparently!

Oooh I took my mannequins to the Mannequin man to get restored.
So in around 6 weeks I'll have some beautiful girls in my house.
The mannequin man fell in love with the silver one! When I asked if she was 40's or 50's he suspects even earlier! It was nice to have a chat to another Mannequin enthusiast. I do realise my coming obsession with them is a little odd, so I felt right at home, surrounded by hundreds of life size nude figures. haha. It was fun.
Vintage mannequins are his favorite of them all, and he's looking into making remakes of the vintage beauties, which I think is a brilliant idea.

Also, on Saturday I'm heading out to Fryerstown annual antique fair! It's the biggest in Australia I think!
Has anyone been or are going this year?
It's quite a drive out, but it should be a great day!

Mannequin me, Mannequin you.

I've had the Mulligrubs song in my head for over a week now replacing the word Mulligrubs with Mannequin. It's terrible!
My addiction to mannequins is getting out of hand, but I'm LOVING it! haha

Here are my latest two editions! Oh I adore them. I come home and smile at them as if they're real people! How could you not? They're just so beautiful!

This is my 1960's/70's beauty. Her makeups gorgeous! After my daily mannequin searches and research, I've never actually come across a vintage plastic one.
I went to buy a mannequin from a new mannequin shop, and they mentioned they've just 'invented' plastic ones as they're light weight and indesctructable. So finding a vintage one is really weird! Her arms, legs, head and waist are all strung together on the inside, and are joined to the rest of the body by balls (similar to a barbie dolls joints) so she's completely movable! Really like a giant doll!
I do have her arms and hands, but my newly found mannequin restorer has to rescrew her joints as they're a little dodgy.

This is my new 1940's/50's girl. She's been a bit mistreated. She's missing a finger, and someone has sprayed her silver :(
So mannequin man's going to restore her, and give her a makeover to make her look how she originally did, pale skin, dark hair, red lips. Beautiful.
I can't wait. :)

And lastly.. not a mannequin but something I've been on the hunt for... though not my ideal ideal one, it's pretty darn cool!
An Original (You see the newbies everywhere) Fiber optic lamp on a spherical base that changes colour and turns! SO lovely to look at. Really relaxing actually! I've been caught just staring. haha.

Camberwell market was such fun! It was nice to see so many faces I knew, and meet some nice bloggers. Thanks for coming and saying hi :)
I was completely raided and sold almost everything which was fantastic!
So much more room at home........ to refill no doubt.

I plan on doing another one in a few months so if you missed out this time, there'll be another. Not sure what sort of stuff I'll be selling yet, but I'll start sorting it all out now. Eee.

I shared (well 95:5 ratio) the stall with a friend, who has some crazy cool Michael Jackson stuff up on eBay for sale atm, so check it out here if you get a sec.

I begun the 4am day in a dress, but the promised 25 degree day never came, and everyone froze. People were buying winter woolies from me just to wear around the market! I ended up putting jeans on underneath and spent the day wishing I brought a blanket aha.

Lastly, one of my favorite things. I came home and my bf had this Original Pop Art screen printed fabric wall hanging for me. Isn't it amazing? There's so many fabulous images throughout. I couldn't have asked for a better surprise.

To Market to Market - Camberwell market tomorrow!

Okey doke!
My poor car is completely FULL!
I literally had to put all my weight on the boot to shut it.
I'm all ready and set to GO to Camberwell market tomorrow morning.

Very excited.

I'll be selling mostly 80's and 90's clothes that I've had stashed in my giant stripey bags for so long.
I have no idea what's even in there anymore.

All clothing will be $5 or $10!

Even though when I go to markets, I don't even bother rummaging through piles of clothing, I have way way way too many clothes to hang, so the $5 rummage pile will be a massive rummage pile. I can't help it!
It's a huge massive mound so get in early as there's some goodies!
(The $10 rack will be hung, just so you can differentiate between the two :) )

There's Blouses, dresses, cardi's, jumpers, leathers, skirts, everrrything.
It'll be completely rummageable because pretty much everything there will be vintage, so it'll be worth it! I promise :)

Ebay sellers!! Its a good time to stock up. Most stuffs cheaper than opshops these days, so buy up :)
I really do just have to get rid of it all!
AND... come after 11.00... and all clothing will be $1
Any clothing I don't sell will be going to the opshop afterwards.
So yeh... I really don't want to take anything home :)

I'll also be selling about 8 pairs of Genuine Vintage Raybans for $40-$60, Boxed Polaroid Camera's, Shoes, Winklepickers, Docs, Random bits and pieces, my badges and totes too!... and I'll be giving away my magnets of course :)

My fab bright green retro bike will be there for sale too! My Mum however will not be haha.

Even if you just come to say hi... oh and keep me awake from waking at some crazy hour, or take my mind off the hopefully not sizzling heat or heavy rain! That'd be lovely. :)

Fantastic Plastic lounge is BACK!!

Hi guys!
In my earlier post about my brown lounge (here) I mentioned that my fantastic plastic lounge has become my storage area for all things I sell in my shop.
Well the plastic side of retro has always been my favorite part, and not having access to my plastic lounge has been getting on my nerves, and the job just seemed to big to do anything about.
Until today.
As soon as I woke up I decided it was time to claim the plastic lounge back as my own!
And not even mutilating my toe by trying to carry a ridiculously too heavy shelf for one person out to the garage was going to stop me!

So the rest of my house looks like a bomb's hit it.
But I'm not going to worry about that now. All I can care about is that I can see all my favorite things again, and actually LIVE in my house! (Which I believe is what it's intended for.)

I of course couldn't wait to show you all pics because I'm so proud of myself for getting it how it is.
While clearing out I have discovered a lot more goodies to bring to Camberwell market on the 3rd Jan (read here for info)

I've kinda gone overkill with my Twiggy heads I know, but they're in a fixed spot now. I promise.

I got this McLaren Bull for Christmas from Mum. He's huge! Unfortunately his horns broken off, but we still have it, so araldite will fix him up nice and good. And he's a keeper anyway so the value drop won't bother me. She found him about 10 years ago in a country op shop for $2. I saw his poor broken head sticking out of a box she was packing to move and said.. Um what's that? I will have that for Christmas please! haah.

I finally got to lay down that giant shag pile rug I bought a few months ago. And by giant I mean GIANT! I was certain it'd fit in my lounge until I started to unfold the monstrosity of a rug and started to doubt it!
It just fits. Fewf. But you can see how close it came in the next pic

So I can't move in the rest of my house, but at least there's heaps more room otherwise haha. I'll start the boring bit of finding places for the homeless objects tomorrow.

A Christmas Present to myself.

Books make me very happy.
Though I'm not a big novel reader, Reference books, and large hard cover books full of bright fun pictures really do make me happy.
I always have to tell myself 'no' at opshops when I see the abundance of coffee table books of which I have no relation to it's content. Yet I still feel the need to buy them as they're so pretty. (I don't! I'm strong... and well, have no room for them. )
I really do love learning, so when I find a reference book that relates to my interests, I get oh so excited!
My Christmas present to myself, arrived on the front porch this morning!
I ran inside sat down on the couch and ripped open the packaging to reveal this...

Isn't it a beautiful book? When I found out this book existed I knew I had to have it.
Nothing screams Trish more than a book titled "Fantastic Plastic, the Kitsch collectors guide" 4 of the 6 words are key Trish words.
I couldn't believe I didn't already own this!

SO.... Just as I was thinking that this book and I were a perfect match, I open the cover, turn the first page and check this out...

I turn to my right, and I'm not at all kidding, this is exactly what's set up in my house. I just had to take a photo!

Made my day! Best gift to myself ever :)

New shop goodies :)

Yey

So I picked up a Nintendo DS at market on Sun.
It was at the same stall as a Gameboy advance that after the guy told me allll about what it was "This is a Nintendo gameboy, now Nintendo's one of the best brands you can get you know, these are in the second hand shops for $80.. blaa blaa blaa", ended up wanting $50 for it.
I then picked up the DS expecting at least $50 and he says "Not sure what that one is, some kind of hand held game, I dunno, $10."
"COOL YES THANKS COOL SURE OKAY I'LL TAKE THAT THANKS HERE YOU GO OK BYE"
I was out of there quick smart and happy as Luigi.

My old Gameboy has a broken screen part so getting a new one meant I could bring out my games again.. and have a go at some newbys.
Zelda Spirit Tracks is currently my latest game. I'm feeling a bit so-so about it so far but I'll give it a few more hours tomorrow and see how I go.
Until then, I'm off to bed to play some Mario Kart and I might even get some sleep while I'm there.

The brown lounge's newest edition!

Hii :)

While cleaning my house today, I realised it's been a while since I've shown you parts of my house. It changes around so often as I buy new bits, and sell old bits that I don't realise how much it's changed!
A few months ago I purchased a fabulous new pair of arm chairs that I'm desperately wanting to show you, so I took a few pics to show you what my Brown Lounge is looking like.

My Fantastic Plastic lounge is now my storage area for all items in my shop, so regrettably it's pretty much non existent and looks like well... a giant mess. But an orderly giant mess!
So it's nice to have this lounge to come home and relax in.

Ok..
So the first one is actually 3 photos that I mushed together using a program called 'hugin panorama' which was a nice lazy Saturday activity and quite rewarding to see the finished result!

Polly want a Cracker of a find?

Hello!!
Aargh so it's super late and one eye has started to shut... Mmmm bed.
But super quickly, I'd like to share with you my latest finds :)
I'm not sure what I'll keep and sell as yet... I might have to have a play first :)

I love having odd Characters just chilling out around the house.
People can visit my house 20 times and not have seen them, until one day for some reason they notice the life size wooden parrot perched on his little wooden stand keeping a watchful eye on them from up on a shelf. He's definitely a keeper though.

2 West German vases!! The left one's fabulous!

I am off to Coles first thing tomorrow morning to get some batteries for this beauty!!
It has its original song book, and little attachable shelf to rest it on.
It's no Casio, but I'm sure I'll pump out some amazing chopsticky tunes!

I've been unsatisfied with my dinner setting for over two years now.
Every time I take it out I'm a little disappointed that I have to eat off such ugliness.
I've seen a few 'okay' sets to replace it, but they too just weren't good enough and I wanted to wait for the right one. And then I found this!
It's an English set, all hand painted and really 60's!!
Perfect size wheetbix bowls, and just really Trish.
Very pleased.

So even though these are modern, I couldn't say no. I mean they're cupcakes!!
I feel a little bit like I've gone behind my own back buying 'new' things.
And even though I have no reason to, I feel a little guilty for it.
BUT THEY'RE CUPCAKES!! They were only $5 for the set at Oakleigh Market on the weekend. I think I'll put them in the bathroom and use them for hairties, pins etc etc.

This is the best! It's an ashtray made by an Australian maker named 'Gunde' or 'Gunda' who made fabulously styled ceramics in the 50's/60's. How great is this shape!!!

How kitsch is this? Wooden bird with a removable feather duster tail! His head moves around in all directions too!

Lastly, is a few more odd 70's Staffordshire mugs.
Because of course my cupboards aren't full enough of odd retro mugs and such haha.
Oh well at least I can throw out my old ugly dinner setting and clear some room to buy more things :):):)

Oh... ok that wasn't lastly...

I got an early Christmas Pressent from the Boy!

My favorite band 'Camera Obscura' released a new Album that I had no idea about until we went JB Christmas shopping. I haven't had a chance to listen to it properly yet but gosh I can't wait. Their songs are amazing. They have a real 60's feel to them and are definitely worth a listen.

(I'd like to make a note that I just spelled the word 'definitely' correctly for the first ever time! I ALWAYS spell it definately for some reason, and can't seem to break the habit except right now!! HOORAY!! Goodbye red underlined word.)

My other eyelid is slowly dropping. Bed time.

It's been a long time without an outfit post!

Yay 2 blogs in one day!
I guess that's what happens when I decide to have a 'nothing' day at home.
Doing 'nothing' is harder than doing something, so I chose to do something!

And that something involved the previous blog! And...
Well, I've received a few emails from people asking why I haven't done an outfit post in a long time. And to be honest it's because I've been feeling pretty blerck for a while with the whole dreadful hayfever season beginning, and being so busy and all with the online shop and all.
But today, I'm hayfeverless, I have a lot more time on my hands now that the shop bulk is up, and I don't want to do nothing... So, I put on my face, and put on some of the more fun outfits I've worn over the past few months.
I have actually been wearing a lot of jeans and blouses too... I started to realise as I went through editing these it started to look like a costume shop photo board, but I can assure you, I wore all of these.. except one that I'll tell you about when I get there.

Ok here goes..

I bought mine last year, and since had believed it was made of Polyester so hadn't worn it for that exact reason!
Until... I dug it out again, searched for another tag and finally found out it's made of 100% cotton! (It certainly doesn't feel like it, but I trusted the tag and it turned out to be pretty good for summer!)

I wore this opshopping one day, and A lady who worked there demanded I take a photo of myself in the above dress as I reminded her of herself when she was young. I don't think she'll see this, but I said I would so this is for you :)

SURPRISE!

When trying to put this outfit together I realised I own barely any navy items!!
So I'm actually wearing a 50's Jantzen bathing suit underneath haha. It worked out well except of course when I had to go to the loo :)

Ok this is the outfit I haven't actually worn but have been wanting to show people for ages!! It's an old 70's Jumpsuit for "ESSO" petrol which is pretty cool! Now there are numerous reasons I won't wear it out of the house!
1) It's not the most er.. comfortable thing to wear.
2) I have quickly realised I look like a cross between...

And last of all, Oh, I cut my dyed my hair back to how it used to be!! I had black hair for yeaaaars, then died it bright red, then finally grew it out to my natural mousy brown. got bored and went back to black haha.
I've got back into my 'punk' days and put my Septum ring back in too!
I took it out 2-3 years ago and attempted to put it in a couple of days ago, I obviously and very uncomfortably got there!

Extreme Killer Python Cravings.

It's been a while since I've shown you what I've found for ME of late so here's hopefully a quick post to show you some of my goodies!

I was going through some of Mums boxes yesterday, and as like all of us 'collectors' there's never have enough room no matter how much room we have!
So we were clearing some space (That probably won't make a dint I'm sure haha)
Some stuff was being chucked, other stuff was going to Auction, and some bits and bobs I couldn't let her get rid of.
This is what I took!

I have always had a thing for mermaids. I don't harp on about it because someone always knows that lady who once told someone she collected frogs/candles/cows and now has a whole room dedicated to them because everyone latched onto it and bought them frogs/candles/cows for every Christmas/Birthday, and I don't want to be that person with the mermaid room.

I don't have many of them because I couldn't tell you what I like.
Something just gets me when I see one, and not when I see another!
There's just something magical about them don't you think?
The Little Mermaid was my favorite Disney as a Kid.
No one will watch it with me because I know every song/word/sound effect. Sigh.
(Obviously the Mermaids on the left of the pic!, The other items are my latest in the kitsch collectable pickups! Including the sewing aid dog with a pin cushion head, tape measure tail, and scissors down his front that's handles make his glasses (Still gotta find some scissors!) )

And last night.. I just bid on ANOTHER full body mannequin arrgh. I need to just stop.

This is my new recycling postage items bin! His name is "MR CLEAN"! Could you guess?
I can easily say I've had the Millencolin song "Mr Clean" in my head since our eyes first met.

He's pretty cool! Cute pink paper mache flamingo!

I got this large enamel ware framed piece made by Richard Dent! Really 60's! It's actually supposed to be hung landscape, which is kind of different for a piece of art of that shape.

This angel stuck out at me for some reason! She's Really retro looking.. I don't think it is, but it looks very similar to pieces made by Bitossi

Hehe remember seeing this dude at the milk bar? Probably next to the KILLER PYTHONS! Oh my god I want a Killer Python RIGHT NOW!
I'm not sure what I'll put in him, but it'll make a pretty cool Point of Sale display piece.

I'm not sure if I want to sell or keep this yet!! In all my years of traveling around, attending markets/auctions I've never ever seen a genuine vintage lava Lamp.
Well this isn't a lava lamp, but a glitter lamp! I HAD to buy it! It's gorgeous lit up and really is soothing to watch! The little pieces of glitter inside slowly move around and looks fabulous on my little shelf!
I have a modern one too but I only keep modern things until I can find a Vintage replacement.. which I have! Now do I keep or sell? Aargh. I think I'll keep him for a little bit and see how I go!

Lastly, this was one of my favorite things to do in ages! My clothing tags arrived! And I got to tag all of my pieces! Now they're all pretty and hanging, and it looks like a real shop! So now when you buy my goodies you'll feel like you've bought from a real shop too!

Twiggy is now in store!!
Wahoo!
She arrived in 'We missed you! Please go and pick up your parcel at the post office' form and I was BUSTING to go and get her, but timing was off so I had to wait a whole day. I survived it! (Unlike Jack from Titanic who is currently hanging onto a door in the ocean Oh dear.) Anyway, She's fabulous! Check her out!

She's so so so cute.
Since buying her I've found an unhealthy obsession with mannequins.
I can't stop looking for them! Seriously, the amount of time I've spent typing things into eBay is ridiculous!
I impulse bid on another one..... and bought it! Eep! So there's another 60's/70's bust coming in the post any day now! My house will be hell creepy if I keep this up.
The big mannequin that I model my clothes on gets put anywhere theres space, and the other day she was leaning against my flyscreen door and what came to mind was Macaulay Culkin in Home Alone when he uses mannequins and blowup dudes to distract the robbers.
My brain went into funny mode for a good few minutes, and quoting Home Alone "I'm going to give you to the count of ten to get your ugly, yellow, no-good kiester off my property"

Anyway completely off subject.

ANYWAY!! Jess from A New Muse was SO lovely!! She bought a dress that was too big for her and thought I may like it as a donation to help get my shop started!! I was floored at the generosity! And she did it so cutely! It was all wrapped up with a cute little sticker to seal, and she dug out a little card that looks like a polaroid photo for me! It was like Christmas!!
It was so nice to receive something that wasn't a bill!

Hellooo!!

I'm not sure if you've seen the cutest thing in the world before...
You might have thought you had...
I thought I had!
Until I found this.

This is by far... The cutest thing I have ever seen in the whole wide world.

He's a little 50's salt shaker, shaped like a little pixie or elf head.
Unfortunately I only have one. No pepper for me.
So it's one of my life missions to find his long lost sibling head.

If anyone finds it I'd love to buy it from you!!
Although I do feel special thinking that he's winking at me and not his pepper carrying friend.

Anyway I just had to share.

He's sitting on my record player case ontop of my TV and he makes me smile :)

I've never taken you into my bathroom before and this is possibly the only time I will!

I picked up this cute toilet mascott this week!

He sits ontop of my loo next to my 'Loo' sign that forever gets changed to '007' whenever Dad visits.

Twiggy moves in with Trish

I'd just like to introduce you to the newest resident of my house.
You'll see her potting about in numerous photos so it's best I get you all acquainted with her.
You may recognise her from being the 60s Queen of Mod, or perhaps a judge on America's next top model?
Yep, that's right, Twiggy is moving in with me.
She'll arrive by post in the next week or so and gosh I can not wait.
I've wanted her for so long!
Here's her pic...

She is an original 1970s French vintage twiggy mannequin head.

These display heads were made in France in the early 70s and designed for fashionable boutiques to display their hats on.

She is part one in my mannequin desires to help build the clothing/accessories section of my SHOP, and I have not a doubt she'll display hats, scarves, and jewelery nothing short of fabulously!

Yay twas a quick post!

I got inspired

So it always happens.
Why? I have no idea.
I always seem to start big projects at bed time.
Not during the day when I actually have the time and daylight!
No no.
But when the need for torches, more than one person, and perhaps some common sense is required.... Which I don't have at that time.

So change is one of my favorite things. And looking around at my overcrowded house, I out of the blue, and at bed time, decided it needed a change.

Now starting to move furniture in my flat is like asking for a pony at Christmas time. It's just not going to happen.
Similarly to the asking for a pony, I decided to try my luck anyway.

My house is completely upside down, I haven't sweated this much since I did the cross country in maybe year 8, and although I seem to have gone backwards in the bedtime project, the goal I set out to do was a success.

I wanted to bring in from the Garage my Loreal shelf that I mentioned in my last blog. (Ps two blogs in one day! PWOAH)
Now considering not an inch of wall/floor is visible in my place, a lot had to be shuffled to get that far.
Not just so I could fit it in, but so that I could physically get it in my front door, and maneuver it to it's new home.
Now if I were on some kind of reality TV show, watching me do that would have been a highlight at an understatement.
Let's just say I definitely needed that daylight, that other person, and most of all, the common sense.

The task was almost impossible. Thank god for swearing, or half of my house would still be left outside on the lawn in frustration.

BUT I DID IT!!!

There were a few near crashes from where laziness set in and I didn't move things out of the way properly to begin with. But nothing broke.

I did screw up the wall with some badly used claw hammering to move a hook to hang up the fab blind that I'll show you in a sec, but psht... I'll stress about it when I have to leave here.

Ok here goes....

I'd like to unveil my silly bedtime project....

How cool is the blind behind... ooh I just... Rhymed. Bad bad bad.

Ok.

I'm exhausted and I'm supposed to be doing markets tomorrow morning, so I best leave my crazy house and jump into bed.
Let's hope I don't have to get up in the middle of the night because no doubt I'll forget nothing is where it normally is and I'll have very sore toes.

Love for merchandising

Hey guys!!
Just a quick post to show you my latest finds :)

I have this thing for merchandising. I get huge kicks out of finding creative ways to display things, for example, I store my badge collection in my Gumball machine, a Caroma vanity unit to display my S&P collection, a cake display plate to show my Jewelery etc etc

This week, I picked up a few exciting merchandising items which has had my toes twiddling with glee!

My favorite being this Vintage "Mitchells paint" Point of Sale stand which I saw huge potential in!

I put a few of my Bags on there to show you one of my ideas, but it could be used for hanging anything, from Jewelery, to scarves, to mugs?
I dunno but I had to have it.

Another being these amazing Murano Glass pieces from a light fitting.
The curve in them screamed shoe display when I saw them so I bought the 12 pieces.
It can be layed down held up by itself, leaned on something like above, or screwed onto something using the light fitting hole at the top.
So many options!

This was an eBay buy from a few weeks ago but I'm dying to show someone.
It's a display stand from a Hairdresser (obviously) But wow!
It's space age design screams Kartell, and by simply replacing the Loreal sign at the top with my own, or just removing it completely will make it even more spectacular!
Also, every block is fully removable, so you can undo it all and form whatever shape you like! WOAH!!!!

These three dudes are all hand painted and pretty cute even though they are clowns... Which in my mind is pretty rare to see!

And lastly, my fav item....
I mentioned in my last blog that I have a list of items I hope to get.
Well I got another one!!!
Most of the items on my list are stereotypical/cliche retro items, which means they're hard to find and usually expensive to buy.
Like for example, if someone had a 1950's style house, you would expect to see the set of 3 flying Beswick ducks on their wall.
But for me, one of my list items were a starburst clock.
You can't have a retro house without one, and my house has been missing one for a good couple of years haha.
I now feel complete... for today.
This one's a Metamec one from England with wooden and brass bursts. I couldn't have designed a better one.

Halloween Halloween Halloween

Hooray! My favorite time of year has come and gone!!
Halloween fell on a Saturday this year, so it was bound to be an amazing day/night.
I worked at the costume shop during the day.
It was by far the craziest most busy and fun day of the year.
Driving home to get ready for the party, I drove past a few family's walking around from house to house in their capes and fake blood, carrying their pumpkin trick or treat buckets.
I'd toot my horn, they'd get all giggly and excited, and wave profusely, which in return would get me all giggly and excited and look forward to tooting at the next group of kids.
They started to die out *intended pun* when far far in the distance I see one last kid walking the streets.
He's dressed in normal clothes, a hoodie and some jeans... and a scream mask.
So still being on my high of kids getting excited by my toots, I toot him.
But instead of exciting waves..... He gives me the finger.
I was in stitches laughing. You just know he was sitting at home on the computer when he started craving some lollies so dug out that old scream mask of his brothers and start to cruise the streets. The things he has to do in the name of lollies.
I'm still laughing.

Believe it or not Halloween is huge in Australia now.
I remember back in Highschool days, my friend Clare and I decided to do Trick or Treating one Halloween.
It wasn't very big back then, and of course living in Marysville, a country town with a very small population, there was almost no chance of anything remotely Halloweeny going on.
Anyway, I think I dressed in a power puff girl costume, I can't remember what Clare wore, but we started our door knocking.
What a hilarious and interesting night. Definitely one of those nights where you cry real tears from laughing so hard.
We got next to no lollies. However we did receive...
A packet of raspberry tart biscuits,
Left over sausages from dinner,
and our favorite thing...
Money! Lots of money! (Well lots at the time... I think we got like nearly $40 each?)
Guilt pays! All these people felt terrible for not being prepared, so went and rummaged up whatever they could get! Genius!

Hahah, anyway...
Every year two friends and myself organize a huge Halloween party in the city.
Last year you'd remember I went as a decapitated Anne Boelyn (Which you can see in my Halloween 2008 blog here)
This year I went as BEETLEJUICE!

And then this morning, I was up super early to do the markets. I got a few goodies :)

Fabulous fabulous vase on the left. And this flower ornament that my boyfriend was so very jealous of. :)

And lastly... my favorite market find for a long time. These ceramic owl bookends. Probably from the 1950's in perfect condition, still with it's original sticker.
The colours are so so great! I just adore them.

She's back and blogging

Hello! I'm back.
My lack of blogging has been due to being in super busy planning mode for the opening of Trish Hunter Finds, however planning has been postponed for now :(

I had been accepted for my dream property, had the lease in my hands ready to sign, and then something happened and unfortunately, I had to call it all off... for now.
But the mission will continue and although it won't be this year, it will be sooner than originally planned :)

In happier news, I now have Boxes and bags and bags and bags and bags of stock that I haven't shown you due to the quantity I've been buying in preparation for the shop.
A lot of it is all boxed up, but I have kept out my favorites for my own enjoyment, and so I thought I'd show you some bits and pieces that Trish Hunter has Found over the past couple of months.

Ok here goes

Always a big lover of the fantastic plastic. Here lies some of my Kartell bits and other plastic bobs

Another corner of junk

There is not a chance I could ever roll this bright green shag pile out in my house if I tried.
It's HUGE!! Bigger than most rugs I've seen. So unfortunately it has to stay rolled up until I move somewhere where I can quickly get it down before I move anything else in.

In this blog post, I've included two things that I can tick off the list of things I've been after for around 4 or so years. It's a reasonably small list and it's getting smaller!
A green or pink Sunbeam Mixmaster has been on that list for so very very long. And finally my time came to get one. My chin hit the floor when I saw it. My boyfriend had to pick it up for me before I tripped over running towards it.
It's in FABULOUS condition, with it's two original matching bowls Ahh!

This is the other item that's been on my weekly search list on eBay, and the reason I often go to the shoe section in opshops to begin with.
An original pair of 60's white Gogo boots.
I do own a 70's/80's pair, but they just aren't the same.
They were 'will do for now' boots, because I'd spent so long looking for the real deal with no luck, I had to have some sort of white boots.
Then just last week....ZING!!!!!! another tick off the list. Oh I wanted to wear them to bed they made me so happy!

This is fabulous. A whole bolt of this fabulous 50's fabric. The photo says enough surely. There is so much here that I worked up a sweat carrying it out of the car. I have no idea what to do with it just yet, but a retro lounge suite would look fabulous upholstered in it. Oooh.

This coffee machine has saved my life.
I've been an International Roast girl since I started drinking coffee last year, and scoffed at the yuppies who 'required' bought espresso coffees...

...And then my Boyfriend got an espresso machine.
Going home to my International Roast was not the same. I preferred going without coffee than drinking that gunk. Yes, I have turned into a Yuppie. But at least a DIY yuppie because I now have MY OWN MACHINE!!!!! Oh I do love it.
I feel all pro when I make that fabulous noise foaming the milk up. Ckkkkckkkkkkk
Ok that's enough. I could skite about it for at least another couple of paragraphs.

And lastly, this tin house by Mettoys with the attached garage.
It's just fabulous to have on display and makes me so happy to look at.
It's in great condition considering it's a dolls house and like most vintage toys, are heavily used.

My favorite thing about it is that similarly to the outside being painted as the outside of the house, the insides are painted as the insides. From floor rugs, to paintings, furniture, kitchen accessories etc, everything's there on the walls or floor.

No longer a secret

Hey guys! As you've probably noticed I haven't really been here as regularly as I used to.
I'm so out of the loop with all of your fabulous blogs, but I do have an excuse!

I've been holding onto this secret for WAY too long and I'm about to burst so I have to give it away.
I've been in serious planning mode for Trish Hunter Finds. Yeeee!
You may have read in my 'about me' section, that I intend on opening up my shop in 2011, well, that has fallen back to 2009!.... THIS YEAR! AARGH!
I've been looking at shops, talking to estate agents, writing business plans and planning paint colours!
It's all finally happening!
I have no idea when it will all eventuate, as who knows when the right shop will creep up, but it could be any time, so keep checking back for updates as Trish Hunter Finds will be here before I am probably ever ready haha!

Oh how EXCITING!!!!!!

I hope you will all come and visit once I'm open! I'd love to meet you all :)

Ok, super quick update because I'm running short on time, see the amount of stuff on my entire house's floor seems to be multiplying at an exceptional rate and it won't be long before I'm stuck on my couch and unable to move, and it'll continue to build up around me and swallow me up, and I don't really want that to happen so I best clean my house.
The amount of newspaper that's lining my floor from unwrapping breakable goods, could suggest to anyone new coming into my house that there is some kind of animal living with me, but no. I think my main problem lies in the fact that I basically have too much stuff. Gee how surprising! I have been in denial for a long time.
The main question I'm asked when I meet fellow bloggers, is 'Where do you put all of your stuff?' And the answer is changing, from a confident 'Oh there's always space.' to... '...uh where I unwrap it' because that's currently where everything is at the moment... it's currently being left where it's unwrapped due to no space left! Eep! Time for some more shelves? :)

I've wanted something to put in my bathroom for a while now. My bathroom has NOTHING decorative in it, and it bugs me. So I bought this cute little 60's bedside table to store my towels, and put some pretty things on top of. Not sure what yet, but I'm sure it'll fill up soon.

And the Beatles red and blue albums which I have playing as I type, and soon to be tidying sigh.

Wah wa ooo hello!
Gosh! Thanks so much for all of your lovely congratulations.
It's been great gallivanting all over town and picking up bits and pieces as I go.
Here are a few bits that I picked up before and after work today that I wouldn't have found if it weren't for those pretty green P plates on the back of my car. :)

But first, yesterday, with a hint of Spring in the air (At least for the early part of the day, kudos Melbourne) I felt rather eccentric, so dressed for my mood.
I do love these tights. They're from Velour in St Kilda, there's 20 million different types, I want them all!
I wore this to Auction that night, and one guy said something along the lines of 'I'm glad there isn't much china this week, I wouldn't know if I were bidding that or Trish' Haha I laughed.

Ok here we go...

WHOO HOOO!!!
Guess who's gone and got her drivers license!
6 years too late is better than never hey?

This is a pic of me and my little bluebird when I first got him.
This is pretty much how I felt when I got my license but being too busy driving around and all, I haven't taken a recent photo of me all grown up and driving, so thought I'd just show this :)

So I've been out and about, not catching trains, getting from point a to point b in half the time, and getting to opshops I haven't been able to in the past because I'd previously spent that time traveling to work.
I am a NEW WOMAN!
I have had my first 'getting lost' drama, I somehow ended up in Dandenong while trying to get home from Frankston. I started to realise this as I drove past large paddocks and industrial areas. I still have no idea how I missed my points. Stupid whereis.com should be called whereisnot.com

Anyway, On my public transportless opshop day on Tuesday, I did pick up some exciting things!

Oh first, this is that dress from Poppet that I bought the other day. I wore it for my test to start the day all bright. It's by far my favorite dress. :)

I picked up...

A Caroma stool that obviously belonged to someone else with a thing for the 70's.. or well just perhaps lived in the 70's, and put two chairs together. Clever people.

I for so long refused to buy a plastic gross feather duster from coles or the $2 shop or wherever, and have been on the hunt for a feather one for a while now. I did finally find a cheapy one at the cheap shop, but all the feathers fall out... so was super happy when I picked this one up. Bye bye spider webs and hopefully spiders.
I semi think I may have bought the opshops personal duster as it was behind the counter. But the man got it out for me and sold it to me no drama. Eep.

And lastly, my favorite item that I made a beeline to. INFLATABLE COAT HANGERS!!!!
and not just inflatable coat hangers, but FLOWER POWER INFLATABLE COAT HANGERS!

Ok that's enough.

Hi hi!
Ooh lots of goodies to show you today!
I didn't think I had much, and then as I started to photograph, I kept finding things that I forgot I picked up, so it turns out it's going to be a pretty big blog! :)
Ok where to start...
I'll post my favorite thing.

This was a gift from the Mr.
I fell in love with her the first day I saw it hanging up at work. It's one of those things that mightn't have any effect on anyone else, but to you it gives you that nostalgic magical feeling.
One of my absolute favorite things are Mermaids.
It always has been since I was really little. Perhaps something to do with the mystery, fantasy and beauty about them makes me feel all funny.
So I was absolutely delighted when it was given to me. I just love her.
She's leaning on my bedside table.

He also picked me up this darling little ceramic owl candle holder who sleeps restfully with his other owl friends.

Oh and some flower power contact too!!

I've kept my eye out for a 3 tier one for ages.
There was one at a Salvos for $50-ish the other day and I left in a grump, but I'm glad because this one was only $7. ZING!

Retro little set of placemats and coasters

I get funny vibes from things. I usually wouldn't like something like this, but I saw it in the opshop near work the other day, I got my funny feeling and just fell in love with it! I have no idea why, but I really like it.

A couple of late 50's early 60's day dresses. They're absolutely gorgeous!! So much work has gone into them! And those beautiful metal zips that make me very happy.

And is there a dress more Trish than this? I don't think so. I bought this from Poppet Vintage on Thursday.
My god she has some beautiful Vintage! And her prices are so reasonable!
You just have to go and snap up a bargain or 5 because zing! Just look at this dress will you? Yee

Ok now for my other favorite item. Complete, and boxed.. with extra's that didn't come in the original set is this... F A B U L O U S.. A M A Z I N G.. G E E W O W.. Space age Barbie furniture set.
As my Cousin has said, anything that deserves spaces between letters must be pretty good, and boy, this is... S O G O O D!
I had to have this, and I definitely payed for it.
It's just way too cool to not own.
It's like a mini Trish house haha.
I've said before that I never was a Barbie girl when I was little. I was a Tomboy building cubby houses and setting booby traps, so this is all new and exciting for me. I can't wait to set it all up at home.

Well gosh I've had a busy busy week! Though it was a great busy week.
I Visited Jules at Poppet Vintage for the launch of her handmade dresses which are GORGEOUS, wait I'll try and find a photo

They're my favorites, but there's all different styles, click here to have a drool :)

Also during the week, a rather handsome guy and myself went on one of our regular opshop treks, and didn't do badly at all!
I was also introduced to the movie... I'm not sure if you will have heard of it... The um, Blues Brothers?
Yeah ok, well apparently I was the only person in the world who hadn't seen it, and now, there's no one left because I have officially watched the Blues Brothers. ZING!

Ok yabber yabber this is what I bought!

My favorite find was from my Mum's favorite opshop.
The reason of course being is that everything is so cheap. Not many of those opshops left folks! The pricing makes me laugh.
Aprons $1.20 Skirts .60c etc.
You just know they've sat out the back and had a deep and meaningful chat about each item...
"Doris, what should we charge for this?"
"Oh Barry, I don't know, would they pay .50c?"
"Surely it's worth 50c? Oh look put 60c on it and we'll see how it goes"
"That's a bit steep Barry."
"You're right, .50c"
Big serious conversations about such cheap items.
We always give them extra anyway, you can't not when you get items like I did for so cheap.
The two pieces of German pottery were a whole 50c each. :)

Strange hand blown 70's beer tankard

Oh what a cute china cup with 1920's dancers on the sides.
This will be my new coffee cup! I'm strange with coffee cups.
I only own one because I always have to drink from the same one... and it's not even pretty!
So now, I when people come over, we won't have to take it in turns for coffee. However I'll have the pretty cup haha.

I've always wanted one of these. My boss at work has one and I'm always admiring it. Ideally, my dream item is a glomesh dress. (I'm not even sure if they exist) But for now, this glomesh necklace will do just fine. it's so soft and gorgeous.

SHOES!

I'm a silly duffer. I always need white shoes, but never buy them when I have the opportunity (I have no idea why) And then I get ready to go out, and wish I had a pair of white shoes and remember all those times I turned them down and hate myself a little bit. And then go shopping again, see white shoes, and think.. Oh I don't need them now! I needed them last week, and don't buy them again, and the circle continues. This time I BOUGHT SOME. And they're fabulous. They have that space agey feel to them so will work with a lot of my 60's dresses. :)

The opposite happens with white boots. Ideally I want a pair of genuine white gogo boots, but in the mean time I've been searching for ANY white boots.

Which are a size too small and the zip only goes half way up my calves, but finding white boots in this style are hard work. I know they're only 90's copies, but they're as close to the gogo boot as I can find, and being rather short, the heal isn't something I'll complain about. So yippee, I now have white boots that fit me!!

I've been on the brown boot hunt for a couple of years. I've designed my dream pair in my head, and am coming to realise they might not exist :( So I decided a brown pair the same as my black lace up pair will be adequate, so nearly died when I found these at market on Sunday (Which I'd like to say I'm quite lucky to be alive to blog, I was pretty close to being blown away!) Unfortunately, I'm still brown bootless. These are a size and a half too big. Sigh.

These are cute. They have little leather lacing at the front. I love Italian shoes. Yes, yes I do.

Very lastly, I have to post a picture of the most amazing breakfast I've had in a long time. Mums are the best cooks. This meal just had to be photographed. It was a full cook up. Something I haven't had since I worked at Marylands where we served that and more. Mmmm hash browns.

Oh no, a new collection.

So on your adventures, you find something cute and unusual.
Nothing abnormal about that, it makes you happy, you find a little home for it and you don't think any more about it.
Then, along your travels, you find another one....
SHOCK HORROR PANIC STRESS!!
But two items is a collection!!
Not another one, not another one.
You thank yourself that this time it's not another big collection like say for example.. retro bikes (guilty as charged) which seems to validate your new collection as being okay.
Now that you've justified it, you can now allow yourself to start spending time looking out for these items, because I mean, you can't let this new collection down can you? (subtle self manipulation)
You may remember in my last post, I picked up a little fish shaped coin purse with the clasp as it's mouth?
Well that was one of my favorite things.
I must have verbally expressed my happiness about it a little too much because a friend gave me one of their purses they had tucked away.
Wait for this...

Isn't this the cutest/most scary coin purse in the world?
The collection has begun. I think it's actually quite a good collection to have because well, they're little, and there's such a variety you can collect so there's always an exciting surprise when you find a new one, and I won't be able to buy tons of them because there aren't tons of them, and I'll force myself to be picky and only buy the vintage novelty ones.

A little 1960's radio that will sit next to my bed

Amazing. I've always wanted something made from cashmere and now I do. This top from Harrods is 100% cashmere, oh it's just BEAUTIFUL! It'll hang at the front of my clothes rack so I can touch it as I walk past. :)

The print I told you about in my last blog that I forgot to pick up (I promise I love her Ray!! It wasn't intentional to leave her behind!)

He also found this kitsch little butterscotchy cookie jar. I really do love my Japan goodies.

Lastly, I have to share this video that he emailed me knowing how much I love the Sound of Music.
This video pretty much made my day.
I clapped when it ended which has to mean it has to be good yes?

Once upon a time, my Nan found her addiction to opshops.
It's been passed down to my Mum, Aunty, and now to me.
Still, every time I pick up anything shiny/glittery/sequinny/diamondy, I say in my Nan's Scottish accent 'That would look nice on a boat' Without a doubt she'd say it every time.
When we were kids, every time Nan and Pop would visit us, we'd run out the front excited to see what she had brought us. One time when we asked what she'd brought, she said "Today my dear, I brought myself!" Oh the disappointment. Hahaha.
Every Christmas at Nans house the fireplace would be lined with Christmas stockings with the names of all of the grandchildren on them, and they'd be FULL of opshop goodies she'd picked up through the year. And an orange at the bottom of course.
I'm super lucky to have this gene in our family, because I not only have my eyes looking for bits and pieces, I have my Mum and now my Aunty on the hunt for little prezzies for me. I'm very lucky.
So on Tuesday I went and visited my Aunty Yaya and family. It was a long time over due!
Shortly after I arrive, Aunty Yaya comes out holding a treasure chest and wearing a big smile!!
It truly was a treasure chest, not only in shape but in content!! Oooooh!
We were both so excited to go through it, and one by one, out came such fabulous finds!

I'll show you them in a sec, I'll go back to my previous blog where I said I bought so much I couldn't carry it home.
Here's some more things!

Here's the water colour I told you about.
It's currently the favorite thing I own.
It's painted by an Australian painter Mary Talbot, and was once owned by Violet Dulieu.

This light shade is pretty cool. It's in pieces at the moment, but they were kind enough to leave an example of how it looked back in its day for me.

You know how much I love my tacky prints. Doesn't even deserve to be leaning against my water colour, but I still love it.
I was also given another wide eye print from my friend Ray, but I think I left it at a friends house :(

Ray's another friend that picks me up little goodies on his travels.
He also found this flower power ironing board cover for a childrens ironing board.
I'm going to try and look out for one and use it as a table top board to save me lugging out my big wooden one every time I need to iron something.

Finally... that thing you'd been waiting so long for but never quite found the one you imagined. I've been hanging out for a coffee table for ages now. The week before I bought this one, I bid on one on Ebay and lost. Two days later ZING!! I found another for a lot less than my max eBay bid.

Ok here come a mixture of the bits and pieces my Aunt found me, and some of the things I picked up too.

Best book ever. It's made of like a canvassy fabric, and the pictures are quite scary but so so cool at the same time.

Cute tea towel and 70's hand made felt oven mitt.

There's something about this doll! Not sure what, but there's something. The plastics different than most, and she just looks different. Hmm.

I love my cats! I don't like real cats at all, but ooh the retro ones are one of my favorite collections. Hopefully in our travels we'll find the other half :)

Hi hi,

Just a few finds today that I thought I'd share, and an outfit post too! :)

Today I wore the sheepskin vest I picked up on Thursday. Super cozy.

I picked up..

This rather heavy old molded glass vase. That made my day.

How trippy is this tie dye scarf? It's MASSIVE. I think I'll hang it on my wall.
I just love the colours and the design.

Not big fan of this design, but for a while now I've been needing a heat resistant place to put my pots etc for my bench. This will do the job just fine!

A cute potato chip canister that I'll be putting my hair-ties and bobby pins in.

And lastly. I don't know why, but I have the worst luck with tan leather shoes.
I swear every single pair I buy, break on me.
If you're after some fabulous Italian brogues, you can find some in the bin outside my work.
But you may find that one has it's whole sole not attached GRR.
I go through them like toilet paper!
I never have a problem with black shoes, but the browns, I can easily say I've thrown out at least 10 pair over the past couple of years. No kidding.
I gave these a good bend to test it's durability before I bought them.
We'll see how long these last.

Freaky ceramics Friday

Hello hello :)
So one of my favorite blogs is Emily Kate's.
She has this section where she posts pics of all her 'freaky ceramics' (Here!) that I am forever green with envy over.
So after picking up some of my own ceramics this week, I thought of her and figured I'd have my own once off 'Freaky ceramics Friday' post.
You all should definitely check out her blog, but all you kitsch ceramics fans should bring a mop, because you'll be drooling.

It's been so long since I've had a massive opshop day.
The things I find are usually bits and pieces I find before/after work throughout the week, but not for so long have I gone on a spree where I get to lug home a ridiculous amount of back breaking awkward items... it was great! :)

Oh, but the fun didn't end when the opshops closed up... no no.
That night I went to auction and pwoah!! I got everything I wanted. Everything I had highlighted on my list, and I didn't go over budget. ZING!!

I took Mum. It was her first ever Auction.
After the story I told her about my beret disaster last time, I got her a little paranoid I think, because she was very quiet. I kept asking her if she was okay. She finally broke and said I'm FINE Patricia. Stop making me NOD! hahahahahaha. What a dag.

So this post is going to be divided into a few, because I bought so much I couldn't carry it all home.

Here are the things I DID get home, and a couple of bits I bought today.

Anything that's marked JAPAN on the bottom usually screams Trish.
This is no exception. Super cute cookie jar house with smoke coming out of the chimney :)

This pretty dish has a hairline fracture :( Poor thing. But I couldn't leave it for $1. How pretty are the colours?

This is the other thing Mum brought in for me when we met at auction.
I've wanted a cute sewing basket for a while, and I don't think I could get one more suitable! I had a doll basket made of the same thing when I was little. Memoriesss.

Hi hi.

Not many exciting finds this week, however with all fingers crossed, I have a few things I hope to get next week!!

First, it's been a while since I posted an outfit, so here's what I wore yesterday

And my finds...

Crochet vest

2 x berets. I believe I now officially have every colour beret. I think I'm now up to collecting shades of colours. Haha.

Strange vintage cow creamer cup thing? and a fabulous polkadot dish

I hate to admit, but I'm such a fan of 90's clothing. I don't know why, I really don't. I found this denim jacket which screams 90's and it was straight in the basket.

A Star Wars lunchbox and some sweet hire roller skates.

And lastly...

My favorite find, which I did pay Savers price for *waves fist* But it's totally worth it, is this real sheepskin hooded reversible jacket. Yes reversible. It has toggles on both the inside and outside, so you can either wear the woolly side or the skin side. It's so heavy and cozy. And did I mention toggles? I love love toggles. Toggles!!
Baaa.

I'm starving and all I have is old pizza and milk in the fridge.
Off to raid the pantry :)

Hot chips have changed.

Hi hi.
So I tried to cut down the following vent into a Twitter, but it just didn't happen.
I'd like to express my sadness about the gradual change that fish and chip shops have made, from wrapped food, to boxed food.
Is there anything better than when it's really cold, getting a bundle of wrapped joy in the form of chips, with vinegar seeping through the layers of paper, ripping open the top and pulling out soggy goodness one by one.
No!
No wait there is. It's when you get to the bottom, you think you're done, and then you find a couple more hiding in the folds and you have to PEEL them off the paper.

My point.
I now only know ONE fish and chip shop left, which thank god is local, that still wraps their chips in paper!
What's with all these boxes?
A) You get less chips.
B) You lose all the above joy.
C) They have NO chance of getting soggy no matter how much vinegar you pour in there.
Chips taste different in a box, and I don't like the taste.

So you probably think I'm over acting a little bit. Chips are chips right?
Wrong.
My friend and I are chip connoisseurs. We once sat waiting for a train and named 27 different types of hot chips. Yep 27. Beach chips taste different to country chips, and to pub chips, and to mcdonalds chips etc.
And the numbers now reached 29. Which now includes curly fries, and box chips.

Curse box chips.

Someone should start a facebook group. I'll join I'll join!!

Vent over.

Here are the things I've found.

My hair dryer is home. I also bought a stocking doll. Those dresses are fabulous.

Ironing board cover, slightly big, but I doubt I'd find one that actually fits my ironing board because I think it's home made.

12 pair of deadstock vintage flares.

My tie dye passion will never die. Not one piece is the same and the colours are amazing and crazy psychedelic. How could I ever refuse another piece.

And lastly Dad dropped off my unusual teak magazine rack. It's fabulous.

I'm off to finally catch up on this seasons LOST.
Don't EVER miss one episode or you can't watch the rest of them until you get to watch that missed one, and it can take FOREVER!!

Winter cleaning

What a day!
I haven't stopped. I've turned my house completely upside down. Every room has been in every other room at one stage, and it's only half finished, sigh.
But it's been SO much fun. Organisation, change, and planning are some of my favorite things, so although it's been super hard work, I've loved every second.

This week I bought seven MASSIVE storage containers. 150 litres each. I could easily squash into one.
Something had to be done. I'd been storing a lot of my clothing in those big checkered bags, and they couldn't be stacked, they were falling over, and taking over the room, so I had to change things.
I spent the whole day unpacking, and repacking boxes, moving everything that's movable around, resulting in a well packed house, and two un-liftable bags to take to market when I eventually go.
My lounge-rooms are still hectic. There's stuff EVERYWHERE that I moved from my bedroom that still needs to find a home, but for now, I can actually see my bedroom floor. There is no checkered bags in sight, I've removed two racks, and I can MOVE!!
I can now get out of my bed in the middle of the night and not trip over a bucket of coathangers, bags of clothes, and way too many shoes.
Don't get me wrong, it wasn't messy, there was just too much stuff. So I needed to reorganise it so it could all fit better, and I didn't feel so claustrophobic.
Oh I should have done it a long time ago. It feels SO GOOD!!
Here is a part of my satisfaction from the day.

Fabulous 80's leather shoes. I've wanted a pair for ages, but I can't justify buying new things, so just waited it out and zing!! These were there waiting for me.

Now I have to get stuck into the rest of the house.

Trish's Mum Finds

Evening!

Today I went and visited Mum.
The day was filled with laughs as she shared stories from my childhood with me.
Some that I'm not able to blog about haha, but gosh I got a laugh when she was trying to explain to me what a massive baby I was.
Here are but a few of the quotes that were used to describe me.
"I remember one day, I brought you over to Nans house when you were maybe a month old, and the first thing she said was 'Moira, that babies ready for work.' "
Nan had a very strong Scottish accent, and when I hear her stories, I know EXACTLY how it would have been said. Gosh it makes me laugh.
Another thing she said was 'Moira, that baby could pull a sled up a mountain.'
Oh my gosh I was in stitches.

Anyway, as you know, whenever I visit Mum she always has a bag of goodies for me.
She's amazing. I don't know how she finds some of the things she does.
This is what she had for me this week.

This novelty cork screw is a bit naughty, but that's what makes most novelty items great. I'm sure I have no need to explain it.

My favorite Mum item, BEST hand held mirror I've ever seen.

Leather painted mini bag/purse

Italian leather and velvet 70's bag.

These two brand new vintage aprons. Flower power anything is my favorite thing in the world, so these had my toes twiddling.

And these bright green gloves with little green daisys around the wrist.

She also got me a velvet blazer that wouldn't photograph, and a pair of vintage tights.

We also went opshopping today. This is what I picked up.

This cord marching vest that I'm assuming was part of a costume, but it's awesome!

Mini love heart shaped hot water bottle that will be used for early morning travels to work.

And my favorite items. You all know I'm a massive tie dye fan, so when I saw these hand dyed cotton hoodies from the 90's, I couldn't leave them. I bought all 8 of them. They're SO GOOD!!!!!!! Made my day.

Because I need it!

Hi hi!

'Because I need it' is one of the most common phrases in the Trish vocabulary.
I've mentioned before that I usually allow myself to buy things by using the manipulative sentence 'It's a good investment.' But equally as common, and rarely ever questioned is 'Because I need it!'
When I'm holding an item that I deep down know I shouldn't buy, but really want to, I give myself a good talking to.
"Trish, what are you going to do with this? Why do you want it?"
I reply always with 'Because I need it', and that's it.
I don't fight myself anymore.
That is a perfectly adequate answer.
I've heard enough.
I obviously need the item I'm talking about, because I wouldn't lie to myself right?
Hmm.
Well a classic example of that exact scenario happened today at work.
I was offered the following item for a great price.

Shotty photos I know, I'll take proper ones when I get it home.
It's a 1950's "Eugene" professional hairdresser's hairdryer on stand, in a fabulous PINK!

Now, I already have a functioning hairdryer, one that's a 10th of the size and doesn't require floor space that I don't have..... but it's not pink, and not vintage, and not this!

They were the only reasons I could think of to try to make me buy it.... until the old 'Because I need it' line was reintroduced, and the item was sold.

No impulse buying there!
That was a well thought out decision. I need it!

And that's how I got this fabulous item, that will one day make a part of an exciting window display, and a photoshoot or two.
But until then, it'll be another curiosity piece for my home that I love and need :)

Today I also picked up the following...

A white Caroma stool to match my Kartell table.

A pair of Italian leather brogues. My others broke (It seems to be a running trend with my shoes at the moment) so I was very please to find these.

All through highschool I was a Sailor Moon nut. When I went to Japan in year 9, I swore I'd come home with Sailor Moon everything, but the only thing I could find was a comic book. My host student said it wasn't 'cool' anymore. I was sad.
The Smurfette pencil case is now already full with my kilometricos. (The only pen that keeps working) (both were little presents from the boss :) )

And this cute little vintage cake booklet too.

Very lastly, I just wanted to show my own photo of the big eye prints I bought. I can't bring myself to hang them up because I only ever sleep in my bedroom so I'd never get to see them!
So until I find something else to lean against my bike, they'll stay.

Oh dear. Now here's a funny story.

So...
As I mentioned in my previous post, I went to my first ever Auction yesterday.
I had printed out my list, I knew what items I wanted, and roughly what my max bids were. I brought my Dad who was in wheezing fits at the 'crap people are buying'
I loved it because it showed him that I'm not the only one that likes this kind of 'crap'
SO.
I wore one of my 1950's swing coats, and my black beret which was annoying me all day. It was like my head had grown an extra centimeter, and it just kept lifting off.

Anyway, so I registered at the Auction, bidder 130. I was given my number to hold up if I wanted to bid on something, and I did! I bid on a few things, won a couple... or so I thought.

I payed for my items and shoved the receipt in my bag because I didn't want Dad to know how much I payed for the 'crap' I bought. And I was kind of freaking out myself because I didn't expect the price to be so high when I payed for it. But I figured I had to add the buyers premium etc etc, so I just left it.

The next day, I was still unsure about what I was charged so took out the receipt and had a look. There were THREE items on the form. THREE!!
I only won two and I was positive of it. After reading the third items description, I didn't even know what it was! I had to refer back to the auction list.

And then it clicked.

At one stage, well one of the many stages when my beret was slipping off, I had my bidders number in my hand as I went to pull it back down. BEW BEWWWW.
I even said to Dad later on "I'm lucky, earlier I fixed my hat with my ticket in my hand, and it could have looked like I bid"
BUT APPARENTLY I DID!

Clever!

When I went up to the counter to pay for my items, the first thing that the lady who collected my lot brought up were a couple of paintings and a mirror.
I mimed to Dad, 'What's my number again?' because I thought I might have given her the wrong number to collect, but then when I saw the two items that I intended on bidding on arriving, I assumed the other 3 items were for another person.

I picked up my two purchases and left.

What a dag.

My first auction, and this happens.

I definitely don't want the third lot that I bought, so I'll put it back in for next weeks auction haha.

And that's my funny story.

Here are the items I intentionally bid on.

My favorite item. This caused so much interest when we first saw it come in and I wanted it. Is it not the cutest toy ever made? block wheels are an interesting invention. Never really took off. He's made in Melbourne too!

I also bought this clock that I had great intentions of having next to my bed.
However then I heard it tick. I can almost handle a mild tick, but this one made me a little bit crazy.
I put it in the loungeroom and shut the door. I swear I could still hear it. Probably mental, but I could still hear it. I buried it under a pile of jackets and went to sleep. It's cute though.

The following are the things I've picked up during the week.

Yes, another poly dress.

I was chatting to a friend at Savers tonight, letting him know if he ever see's a vintage cape to let me know, and seconds later I pulled this out. *plays spooky music*
It's navy blue, lined in a vibrant red fabric. It has asymmetrical buttons, splits that run all the way from the arm hole down to reveal hints of the red fabric as you walk, and pockets. We all love a pocket.

I don't really buy much 80's stuff unless it's unusual, as I don't wear much of it. The above and below items are pretty rad in a possibly/probably bad kind of way.

The above being a fitted LBD with sheer shaped sections across the front. Not sure how... everything would sit but it looks rad on a hanger.

And this absolutely hideous leather x thick fabric and jeweled cropped jacket. Hmm.

And that's it.

Well there's a few more pieces of clothing, but photos of clothing on hangers just aren't working at the moment, so I've almost given up except for the above items that turned out okay.

eBay auctions and auction house!

Hi hi!!

Super quick post just pimping out my current and probably only eBay items I'll have up for ages (hopefully forever)
I put up a whole 9 items yesterday and it took ALL of yesterday.
Never ever ever again! haha.

Anyway here we go...

Rent comes first :( I've put this winner of a dress up. I may/will regret this later.

That took a whole day.

Sure I might have baked some mini cakes in between, which by the way, you should never use eggs past their use by for, because you will be very very sick afterward...
But a whole day! 9 items? Oh dear.

I even asked my colleagues, but I'd feel so silly winking, or raising an eyebrow. I just know I'll end up putting on a cheesy/dorky smile and putting my hand up (not embarrassing at all)

Opshopping / marketing tips to avoid great disappointment.

Hi hi!
Lately, well no, forever I've come close to tears when I've brought home a beautiful piece of vintage clothing from an opshop or market, and after closer inspection, I find something major wrong with it.
This all came about this afternoon when I was cleaning the house, and putting away the clothing from my last post. The red dress. Perfect condition! It looked like it might have been worn once. However sticking out of the 'to hang' pile on my bed was a severely torn piece of red fabric. GASP!!!! I pulled it out and my bottom lip hit the ground.
It looks like someone had put their heal through it and torn it completely.
I missed it when going over it for faults because it was hidden in the massive amount of fabric in the skirt.

Sometimes when we're at a market, or an opshop, we don't have 2 hours to nit pick through every single item to make sure it's fine. It can be embarrassing if you're being critical of every aspect of an item that costs a couple of bucks, but when it's getting over that cheap mark, it's good to have a closer look at what you're buying.

I thought I'd write a little shortlist of things to quickly do wherever you are, to avoid the same disappointment as I had when you get home... or perhaps when you're already out for the night wearing it - oh oh!

Clothing
Most vintage clothing books tell you to flip the item inside out, but I get embarrassed, and if you're at a market, the seller might bump the price up if it looks like you care so much haha.
My Nan taught my Mum and I to hold an item up with two fingers and a screwed up nose and say 'How much for this old thing?' Hahahah. Oh dear. But it works I tell you!! You always get a bargain with that line.

Ok here goes...
- I always flip up the bottom seam to check if it's been cut, or falling down.
If it's been cut, it can really affect the items value, or it might be a shotty job and will be completely uneven and look terrible.
- I look at the tag. If it's still there, and it's so faded you can't even read it, it often means it doesn't have much life left in it, so unless it's a masterpiece, I put it back.
Also read what sort of care it needs. If it's a dry clean item only, can you really afford to be paying $15 each time you want to clean it? It all adds to the cost.
- Check seams if you have the time or if it's super expensive. Sometimes and often seams are split, hems are falling down, there are reasons items go to the opshop and 'cant be bothered fixing it' is often one of them. We all have that 'to sew one day' pile that never seems to shrink. So unless you plan on fixing it straight away, put it back. - Oh also check the zip. If you've ever tried to replace a zip you know it's TORTURE!! Walk away from the rack!!
- Check the underarms. Especially on light coloured fabrics, tight dresses/tops and strapless dresses. Yellow underarm stains are g-r-o-s-s and VISIBLE!!
- On the stain note, give it a quick once over. Anything you pick up on must be really stuck in there, and could have been donated for that exact reason. If it's cheap enough to risk the stain never coming out, or if it's in a spot you can chop off and re-sew, then go for it, but I've thrown out many a failed nappysan attempts.
- If buttons are a main feature on the item, check they're all there. If they're dime a dozen buttons that can easily be replaced if ones missing, then it's no drama. But missing buttons that are covered in matching fabric etc will make the item unwearable.
- With pants, check to see if they've already been taken up or let down. If they fit you perfectly already well done, you have a freak body. I don't know anyone who can find well fitting jeans haha. But if they've been taken up and they need to be taken down to fit you, they might be cut so they can't come down, or they might have a white line around the bottom where the fold was. Not pretty.
- Check for moth holes in woolen items. These are usually unfixable, and if you add it to your wardrobe, there's a chance they'll move onto some of your other clothes and ruin your wardrobe too! If you hold suspecting pieces up to the light you can often see them better. Just last week I found the DREAM winter woolen cape. Beautiful it was. However riddled in moth holes. I desperately still wanted it and started manipulating myself into buying it anyway 'You'll fix it Trish, You'll fix it!'. But I won the fight and said no. I bet I dream of it for years to come.
- Check for goodies left in the pocket! Haha. (At the same time check for holes) Same with bags!!! My Mum found a gold ring worth over $1000 (In a genuine Louis Vuitton bag would you believe) You never know. Also, I often see homeless looking people going through pants and jackets pockets in opshops. I doubt they're doing it for fun.

Shoes
SO many times have I brought home a pair of shoes and they broke on my first walk. Sad sad times.
- Always turn a shoe over and bend it. Mystery cracks will open and you'll save yourself many tears.
- Wiggle the heal. Really wiggle it no matter how high it is. If it moves at all leave the shoe there. It costs tons to have one fixed.
- At the toe of the shoe, check if the soul of the shoe is still fixed. If it flips back it's reasonably cheap to fix, but it's still an extra cost, and chances are the other ones the same.

General pointers

- Avoid things that aren't in sets. 5 anything is no where near as good as 6. If you're selling something, if you try and sell it as a set of 5, you'll get less than if you were to just ditch one and sell it as a set of four. Interesting huh?
- Check everything for cracks, chips, and repairs. Even if it's something super valuable, it can dramatically reduce it's value if it has the smallest chip, or if someones done a shotty job at gluing it back together.
- Just because it says 'England' on the bottom doesn't mean it's worth the million dollars most opshops are putting on things.
- In the end buy what you like. Just because it's not worth anything, doesn't mean its not worth something to you. One of the things that makes my Mum happy is a McDonalds freeby from the 80's that's a love heart shaped Barbie box filled with tiny love heart note paper. Completely invaluable, but not to her.

That's all I can think of for now.
Feel free to add any other pointers you can think of, or experiences you've had so others can use this as a reference, and maybe I'll learn a thing or two to stop me buying ruined red dresses *sigh*

Gosh thank you ALL so much for your lovely messages about the website. I'm so relieved it works. I was scared to read the emails incase something massive was wrong but I didn't get any negatives so fewf!! Although I did tell you to lie so.... haha.

So tonight I went to Savers and picked up some nice pieces of clothing.
Afterward, I walked up to my bus stop and I had a good 10 minutes until my bus came, and KFC was staring at me.
Back story; I haven't had 'fast food' besides the odd McDonalds all year.
Under the 'fast food' category I include KFC, Red Rooster, Hungry jacks etc etc. Fish and chips I call treat food haha. Anyway, a couple of months ago, my cousin mentioned that she got really sick from eating KFC the other day, and ever since, (although it seems pretty wrong) I've been absolutely craving a twister.
Every SINGLE time I stand at that bus stop, I look at KFC and think twissssster.
Anyway, months past, and after savers I read the timetable and as I said, had 12ish minutes till the bus came.
Usually when I get there my bus is under 5 minutes away so I just wait, but with the 12ish minutes, and KFC so close, mixed with the fact it was dinner time and I had no food in the cupboards, and of course the fact I was craving it for so long, meant 'it was meant to be.' (so I told myself)
I scooted off and was first in line.
They were heavily over staffed. There were red tshirted busy bodies that filled behind the counter. And not one of them served me for AGES. One girl was but a metre away from me spraying and wiping the counter, others were tapping on the metal bits waiting for food to come out, others were mucking around...
The last straw on the camels back had already been well and truly placed, and I had snapped when 3 menacing children were wrestling, screaming, throwing toys, and a giant exercise ball in the GLASS SECTION at Savers. I told them off. "Guys this isn't a playground go and find your Mum." They laughed at me and said "hahaha not a playground" and continued. I gained a headache.
ANYWAY... So at KFC, already fragile, I did an obvious 'excuse me' cough and a rather nice girl came over and asked what I wanted. I ordered my twister, and waited at least 10 minutes for it. 10 MINUTES!! The nice girl kept miming 'sorry' to me, so I would smile and say it was fine. I looked out the window at the same time I saw my bus drive past and hated my life just a little bit more haha.
With at least 20 minutes until the next bus, I sat down at the lettuce covered table and ate my twister. It definitely wasn't worth the cravings, or worth getting home 20 minutes later, and it definitely wasn't fast food. It was rather bland, and tasted exactly like every other twister I've ever had. No idea why I wanted it for so long.

Vent OVER.
Gosh, that was really long considering all I wanted to say was that KFC was bad. Oh well.

This is the items I picked up tonight...

No wait... first of all, remember in a previous post where I brought up my Spice Girls passion? WELL... that got my toes twiddling, and almost straight afterward, I hopped on eBay and impulse bid on a set of 5 dolls with Geri in the famous Union Jack dress.

I won, and they arrived on my doorstep earlier in the week. LOVE THEM!!

Ok now this is what I bought tonight...

Lovely vintage dress with a circular skirt, sleeves that open but are done up with buttons and ties, and it's just so romantic.

This is a fairly gross dress, but I can't turn down a sailor dress. It has the back flap too! I'll be able to do something with it surely.

Speaking of gross dresses, I've been really trying to stop buying maxi polyester dresses as much as I love them, but their prints are so gorgeous! I couldn't say no to this print.

My gosh my photos are so bad. This dress isn't shiny at all, but it looks like a crappy polyester too! (Well it is polyester but it doesn't look like it in real life.)
It's a green and polka dot dress with matching belt. It's actually really sweet.

And lastly this beautiful beautiful fur collared swing coat with MASSIVE buttons.
There are some flaws but I'll live with them. There's some fading on the shoulders, only minor but I still know it's there, and the lining hem has fallen down but I've safety pinned it up (for now.... possibly forever depending on sewing motivation.)
I'm hoping I'll be in a mood to wear it tomorrow because I LOVE it. LOVE LOVE!! Well I love swing coats in general. I live in my zigzag green one which I don't actually think I've ever posted a photo of up here. Hmm.

Here is something I have worn this week though,

Please excuse the VERY daggy expression/pose. I have no idea what I was doing and it seems they all turned out very blaa. But yes, this is what I wore yesterday.

And here are some of the items I picked up throughout the week.

My favorite item being this sequined fitted dress. Amazing on and in my size fancy that!! (When I sore it glittering underneath a pile of clothes my eyes bulged and chanting in my head was 'please fit me please fit me please fit me' haha.

So again, my photos are horrible, this is a GREEN leather jacket. A very dark green but it's green. And no batwings! It's fitted. Sligggghtly to big, but I'll hoard it for a while. :)

And lastly this cute little 50's vase without a chip in it.

Oh and in wallowing news, my 'live in' boots, the ones I literally live in.
Every single day.
Perfectly fitting, small heal, lace up, just perfectly Trish, died on me today.
I was playing with them and caught a glimpse of the soul which was completely split!! I gasped very loudly. It was like someone had died.
I flipped over the other shoe and it was well on its way out too.
I took them to the boot makers, and they're going to replace the whole bottom of the shoes for a hefty price.
But I've justified it by the fact if I didn't only buy from opshops, the price to buy a new pair of replacement boots would be a lot more than getting mine repaired, so it's okay. But wahhhhh.
What on earth will I wear without my live in boots???

Hooray! The day has finally come!
After months of hand typed HTML frustration, (Yes hand typed... crazy I know) and numerous unsatisfactory design layouts, I have finally finished the Trish Hunter Finds website....

... Well, that is until I change it again, which I've already done twice since first uploading it, and will more than likely do several more times before the days end when I decide that a sentence that was perfectly fine 10 minutes ago, now needs complete reconstruction.
Or perhaps when the emails come in telling me what links don't work, or what spelling errors I've made, or perhaps (fingers crossed and bitten that it doesn't happen) that it doesn't display properly on a PC. Aargh!
Anyhow, The very beginnings of Trish Hunter Finds has begun! So very exciting!

Hello!
I've been a busy girl.
Working 6 days a week this week, 6 DAYS!!
I must be crazy.
I have though, still managed time to sneak into the opshops before work.
A big thanks to the ladies who know me and let me in early so I can catch my train.
I've said it so many times, I love my opshop ladies. They're so lovely!
It was one of their birthdays on Friday, and they ran down to work and told me to come down for cake (which I've had before for another birthday and my GOD it's the most amazing cake I have ever eaten)
When we were all in the back room feasting, this caught my eye.

WOWWWWW.

I haven't found something that's made me this happy in a long time.
The design of it is so beautiful. It's definitely going to be on display.

It's a four piece Mewo coffee set, with wood grain handles and tray.
So VERY 70's, I just love it.

It was just about to go out on the shelf, so it was mean to be mine.

Other things I picked up this week include,

Single sheet and pillowcase set still in it's packet.

An old teachers marking stamp.

1976 packaged Oscar the Grouch crocheting kit.

I can never turn down things featuring daisies. They make me so happy.
It was my Nans and my Mum's favorite flower, so I've been brought up in a house full of daisy love, and it's been passed on. The colours in this make me smile :) and after the frame gets a good clean, I think It'll be hung in my bedroom.

Ee hee hee, this is the best. Novelty jumpers are hilarious.
I rarely wear them, but if it's really good like this one, I can't resist buying it just for the pleasure of owning something so bad it's AWESOME!

This top doesn't photograph very well but it's gorgeous. Little puff sleeves, matching buttons, and it's green. I'll try and wear it soon to show you better because it definitely deserves more credit than this poor photo gives it.

I got two suits. One I didn't photograph because it wouldn't stay on the hanger so I told it "fine I'm not photographing you" (Like it cared)
I'll try again next time, but it's a beautiful wool vest and skirt from the 50's, with the metal zip, and just amazing quality.
The suit above I suspect is 70's, but again it's wool is the finest softest wool I've ever touched, it FITS me! and it's actually really classy despite how intense it presents on the hanger.

I also picked up this poncho which I wore the next day...

And lastly, the thing that made my day!
I had a visitor at work. One of my blog readers Gina dropped in for the second time to say hello and she had a present for me!
She'd brought me a little parcel of swap cards!
All the cutey ones that I just adore.

I was beaming for the rest of the day! I'm going to do the same for someone and hopefully it'll make them as happy as that made me.

Hi hi!
Just a quick post today as I'm ready for bed.
My eyes are at half moon stage, which means soon my nose will start to get itchy and when that happens, its really time for bed or I get 'tired hayfever.'
Sounds stupid I know, but it's true! My parents have said it to me for years.
"Patricia's ready for bed her nose has started"
hahaha
Anyway, completely irrelevant.
Today I went and did a fill in shift at an amazing auction house!
I had a great day.
Lucky it was a once off because it'd be a very dangerous job
I've already placed pre-bids on two lots.
But it'll make for great blog posts, a very happy Trish, and an even more full house.
This is what I wore today.

Yesterday I had an incident where I was caught out wearing all black, with navy tights.
Mum washed mine and replaced my black ones with navy and I had no idea until I was on the train. Oh dear.
There's a difference when you intend to wear navy and black, and when you look like you have no idea that it's a mistake which is how I looked.
However today, I broke all rules.
I wore black and brown together, as well as black and navy.
I don't think it was too tragic though.

I picked up the following as I was wandering around the markets in navy tights.

Little boy blue childrens night lamp. I've been TRYING to collect these for about a year now and have only found one. But now I have two!
The collection has begun.

Fabulous suede 70's boots.

I bid on eBay for one of these in much worse condition than this.
I'd never seen anything like it before and thought it was a novel idea.
I jumped on this one when I saw it for a mere $3.
I'm not sure what they're called, but it's some kind of weekly savings account for house hold amenities such as 'bread, milk, rent, rates' etc.
This one is by 'Willow'

I got two of these tote bags for 50c each.

Lastly my favorite item. A perfectly fitting furry red jacket.
Oooh it's so warm and I just adore the colour.
I rarely wear any shade of red, but this shade I just love and want to wear it every day.
You'll see a lot of this coat.

I bought a few other bits of clothing, but I took most of these pics sitting in front of the heater and didn't want to move from it's lovely warmth, so you may see them in outfit posts in the future.

The following is a few things Mum had for me.

Cute boxed recorder. I still remember the tunes I played in primary school.
I was 'so good at recorder' (if that's possible) that I got to play the harmony section of Advance Australia Fair at assembly.
Oh the poor parents/teachers who had to sit through that.

And dolly. Nannas used to sew heaps of these and sell them at craft tables.
The lady at Mum's opshop said to Mum 'Oh you can just have that dear, I really don't think it'll sell.' She still payed the marked $2, and I'm happy with her.
She'll sit amongst all the other cushions on my bed.

I swear there was more, I think I'm missing a bag somewhere.

Hihi.
So, as I went to take photos of my latest finds, I realised that most of them would be wasted if photographed on the hanger, so I just had to play dress ups to show you my latest finds. Haha.

So here goes.

Ok, so this is by far my favorite new item for some time.
Possibly one of the favorite things I own.
It's not one of the most flattering items, but pft, I doubt many normal people would look flattered in a skin tight lurex jumpsuit. (Also there's a high chance a girdle might be hiding underneath haha)
So I was sitting on the floor at work, taking up the legs of a pimp suit, when my boss drops this on the floor, about to cut it up to use for detail on a hat. Um NO!
It has been hibernating upstairs with all the unused items.
It's a vintage item that we've been planning to use for the under garment of knights, but no one wants to wear it so it made its way to the unused pile.
"Ok you can have it" were the words that made my day!
Outfit combinations were running through my head at a crazy speed.
But yeah, so anyway.... amazing.
This photo is of me pretending to do disco moves as I imagine it with roller skates and an afro even though it's 80's rather than 70's.
However I feel like I should be doing the robot instead?

Um, so are these the greatest tights in the whole wide world? Or are these the greatest tights in the whole wide world?
I'm sure if you had candied hearts with little messages on your legs, you'd think you had the best tights in the whole wide world too!
They're by Celeste Stein, and I bought them from the only stockist in Victoria, Velour on Barkly street St Kilda.
There are 20 million different prints, in footless, full length, and sock form. I definitely recommend them.

I also picked up these culottes. I've never seen ones like these.
They're made of that fabric that you see so many nanna skirts made out of in every opshop you go into.
They're fully pleated, on an elastic band, and are just crazy!!

I also picked up this plastic piggy bank that has 1 and 2 cent coins still inside.

And lastly this Elvie Hill 1950's dress. (UPDATE 30/12/09: This dress is now available for sale in my online shop. Just click the shop button above for more pics and details)
I didn't know who she was until I googled her and had a great surprise.
From the 'Swish, fashionable Melbourne in the 50's' pdf I downloaded, it says,

'Going Up the Country'

Today, for the first time, a friend took me back to Marysville to visit home.
I'd been putting it off, trying to ignore all that has happened, but the whole denial thing was wearing thin and it was time to actually believe it.
It wasn't as bad as I had thought it'd be.
I cried more imagining going back than I did going back.
The hardest part was when it came to seeing the area where my darling Lucy was buried, but all in all it was a worthwhile trip, and I'm glad I went.
The towns looking ok, (considering).
I still know exactly where I am, wherever I am.
There are still significant landmarks like the trees, the roads etc.
It still looks like Marysville, and like my friend said, it still feels like home.

I'm not going to post photographs of the destruction around.
Everyone knows and has seen what's happened, so there's no need.
I will show a couple of cool things though.

Ok so this was the tree our family called Marge's head. Or as Dad says 'Madge's head' because he couldn't remember her name and it seemed to stick.
It basically looked like a massive version of Marge from the Simpsons hair, and now looks like some kind of mutant scorpion.
I think it looks pretty cool!

And lastly

One of the few trees left, is the tree that I engraved my 'loves' initials into.
I love DA.
I can't really remember loving him enough to engrave it into a tree, but I must have! Haha. I believe I 'went out' with DA for 3 days in early Primary School.
We didn't even hold hands haha.
I believe about a week after breaking up with DA (according to one of my old diaries that I re-read when I turned 21) I then went out/fell in love with AL!
Oh how easy it is to get over a true love when you're young! Haha.

Later that day, we ventured to Alexandra, home of our high school, our lunchtime chip shop, and a closed opshop (oh the tears nearly came back I swear!!)
We had some lunch, bought a ton of 'cheer up' lollies, visited the book shop... well every shop, and then walked through memory lane back at the high school.
We giggled as we sneaked through the corridors, bitched about fellow ex students / teachers, looked at school photos, and remembered memories that only we'd find hilarious.

It was a good weird day!

Girl Power!!

I began work in a book shop, then joined the criminal career but it wasn't for me, I then became a musician, went busking in the park, met an unemployed fan, took him home, 'whoohooed' and had a baby boy.
I'm now a single working Mum...
... in the Sims3.
My reason for my lack of blogging lately has been because I've been living in the sims world (because I'm not busy enough in my own apparently!)
I've always been a game nerd.
I own a lot of consoles.
NES, SNES, Gameboy, Nintendo DS, Nintendo 64, Sega master system, Sega Megadrive, Sega game gear, and of course my computer. I've also had ps 1 & 2, and Xbox.
So yep, bit of a gamer here.
And those who have played any of the Sim games, know how much of an addiction it can become. Theme park is what started me off, I then got addicted to Theme Hospital, and then the Sims was it for me!
It gets to the stage where your real life is affected. Time passes so quickly.
I looked at my blogger account today and I had 100+ blogs to catch up on, and comments to reply to. So on my day off today, I'm playing catch up... in my real life.

I've still managed to get to the opshops before, during and after work, and this is what I've found.

I collect vintage/unusual badges. I can never go past a home made drawing especially when it makes me laugh like this did. 'Punk is cool' haha.

I've swapped over my 80's earring collection with my badges, as I'd stopped buying earrings because they're no longer 20c a pair, but $3 which I can't justify for something that I won't wear.

Now don't judge me, I know this is rather out there, and there's no way I'd have this set of salt and pepper shakers sitting on my imaginary dining room table, but I do love anything novelty, so these will look great amongst my S&P collection!

A photo cube made in the 70's. I'd love to get a heap of these, put interesting images in them and hang them from the ceiling at all different lengths.

Leather boots.

I'm not sure if I've ever ventured into my Spice Girls passion on here before. I'm not a collector... yet, but I'm a massive fan... still.
They're a regular on my playlist, I've read their biographies, and my ears still prick up when their name is brought up.
Geri is by far my favorite. I wanted to be no one more when I was in year 7- current haha. I can see their items becoming huge in the collectors world in the future.
Their spice girls Impulse has gone up to $90 on eBay in the past, when once it was 10 for $2 at the reject shop after they broke up.
I am a regular eBay watcher of the dolls, and often put in a bid.
So yep, I got a tight pull in the stomach when I saw these two COMPLETE photo albums in the photo album section. 120 photos in each.
I always always wanted to collect them as a kid! Who ever collected these must have spent a fortune and had so many doubles! And now they're mine! I love them.

That's all of my finds, a friend came to visit the other day and brought me a belated birthday present! I swear they're the best ones because once you think the birthday's all done, you get a real surprise!

What a great little gift! 'A guide to being a goddess', there's some great things in there! A super cute home made coin purse. It reminds me of an owl. And lastly her favorite scented candle. Oh that made my week!!

And lastly, the amazing things Mum picked me up that I mentioned in my previous post.

She went to a garage sale of a girl who was moving overseas and who had lots of vintage goodies!

A pair of bagged Kewpie dolls. Not sure how long they'll stay bagged for even though the small value it possesses will be less after I do.

And lastly, the item that a dealer tried to buy from Mum as she flaunted it in front of him at the garage sale. She already had it under her arm when he walked in and pretty much ran to the pink one that was exactly the same, only to find that the top was melted and repainted. She then proceeded to make sure he saw hers haha which is when he approached her. Suckerrr.
I thought this was a 1950's bakelite bedside lamp, but when I googled it, I found one that was up for auction at an auction house and it was said to be 1930's? So now I have no idea.

And that's the lot!!

I'm feeling a bit fluey today (greaaaaaat) and so have no desire to cook (do I ever?) so have manipulated myself into believing that I deserve to order delivered pizza for dinner because I feel so bad.

Halloween inspiration

Hi hi!
So I went to Savers tonight, and picked up a few things.
I've been starting to think about Halloween costumes lately.
I work in a costume shop, so even though it might sound early to you, we've been ordering things for about a month now in preparation, so it's always on our mind.
Its the biggest time of year for us.
And as easy as it would be to just borrow a costume from the shop, I don't do easy.
I love the challenge of putting together my own. Which is easy to say when you have like 5 months preparation. Can't say I haven't opped for easy when I hear about the party the night before! Mmhm.
So anyway, I'm rattling around ideas in my head.
It's hard to come up with original ideas as everything's been done by someone.
But anyway... I went to savers today and picked up the following

It's a scouts hat and necktie from the 80's.
I've been collecting bits and pieces of scouts gear when I find them.
I have a belt buckle, a leather neck tie clip to clip the tie in place, and a shirt covered in badges, so when I found the hat and tie, I thought I could perhaps be a scout who's fallen into some kind unfortunate death, stabbed with a tent peg?
Gosh I don't know. But anyway, that could be cool. Idea one.

And then I found this.

It's a blue nighty that automatically looked like Alice in Wonderland (with a fair bit of work) And I have fabulous petticoats to add underneath, and, if I sewed some shape into it, and a waist, added an apron of course, it'd be super cute.
It will in no way be sewn into the short version though.
Original costumes are the best costumes.
Problem is, Alice is such a cliche character to do, even if you do gorefy her up to become Malice in wonderland, or Alice in horrorland etc.
And I don't sit well with normal things.
So I'm thinking I'll just sew this one up to just have as a costume for when I get that last minute party.

But wait there's more...

Then I found this giant pocket watch, which is what the white rabbit holds, which just added to my Alice passion, and made me more keen to make this costume. I could have a toy white rabbit who holds the watch etc etc.

Ok, I'm done with costume stuff now.

I also got this leather tassely belt,

I called Mum today, and she went to a garage sale this morning.
This is what she bought me.

A pale green bakelite lumeray bed lamp.
A dealer came in and saw her with it, and tried to buy it off my her.
Always a good sign you got a bargain! Haha.
She also got me a pack of two cupie dolls in their original packaging.
A pair of 50's b&w striped glasses,
A blue hard plastic shopping bag thing?
Umm
A gold leather handbag
And maybe one or two other things that I can't remember, but she did very well.
She spent $11.
She's pretty good at life.
It's hard to describe things that you haven't seen before, that someone else has tried to explain to you, so I don't know if what I said is what she bought, (The whole Chinese whispers deal) But I'll visit her next week and show you all :)

So, I was waiting at my bus stop tonight, with 1 minute until my bus came, and I recieve a phone call.
It's my brother.
"Did you know you're in MX again?"
(No Hi, hello, how are you. He's 19 and feels the need to use as little words as possible to form a sentence. It is sometimes composed using grunts that I'm supposed to understand.)
"Huh?"
"You're in MX"
"Oh okay?"
"What does it say?"
"Don't know Corey told me"
"Is there a photo?"
"Don't KNOW Corey told me"
"Okayyy? Thanks for letting me know!"
*he hangs up*
Again no see ya, or further conversation, he has got across what was needed.

Completely not the point of conversation.

So yeah, I didn't even know until I got that phone call that I was in MX again!
For the whole Logies deal again.

So as the bus pulled up, I had to decide if it'd be worth walking back to the train station, just to probably see a quote or two by me.
They surely wouldn't post another photo.
I figured it'd be worth missing out on.
But I couldn't just leave it.
So I left my bus and walked back.
There were of course no MX's, as I was well out from the city, so I did a bin scab, and managed to rescue 3.
One with some kind of funky white gunk that I don't even want to know what it is.
That cover is well and truly binned.
But anyway, so yeah. I walked back up to my bus stop and waited 15 more minutes and went home. Totally worth it because...
I again fill up the whole page!! My god! HUGE TRISH.
It freaks me out over and over again.

I was afraid they were remakes but under closer inspection, there was some small spots of crazing on a couple, so I picked them up.
Oh, but you'll never guess what I saw the other day, this 'crazed' vase which was actually pretty cool, I flipped it upside down to see what it said, and there was a big 'made in china' sticker with a barcode. They make objects that look crazed! Wahh!?

It's not vintage but it's lovely. It is a mix of wool and chashmere, so feels amazing on.

And my favorite item. This table cloth has the best pattern. I love it.

And this is what I wore today. I picked this dress up on Wednesday at the Salvos. It's by the designer Ilana Moses. I've never heard of her, but it's super cute. I feel like Alice in Wonderland :)

It don't matter that you're Black and White

Today I went and visited Mum who had collected an assortment of goodies for me!
She had also picked up my new, old television that I'd been pretty keen to get my hands on.
I won it off eBay for $25. "$25 too much if you ask me" is something dad always says, yet restrained from saying so this time, but I knew he was thinking it.
He picked me up as it was a very heavy load.

It's a His Masters Voice TV in a brilliant orange!
I've wanted an orange TV for a while now, and have seen them occasionally on eBay but in other states.
I've found a yellow and a red one in op-shops, and they were both asking $40 or $45, and I really wanted orange.
Then finally... An orange one in Frankston. (Close to Mums)
I bid on it the minimum bid and forgot all about it.
A few days later I got an email from eBay saying I'd won something.
I shuddered to think what it was that I'd spontaneously bid on and won, but was pleasantly surprised!
So yep, here's my new orange TV, which looks rather well suited in my 'fantastic plastic' lounge.

A suitable TV program to be photographed with? Yes.

It's hard to adjust to black and white TV!
I have a feeling I'll be sitting in my 'brown lounge' where my colour tv lives, a lot more often.

Anyway, this is what else I picked up today.

I've come so close to buying one of those onion/vegetable cutters from coles so many times. But my whole 'can't justify buying new things' deal has put me off.
I hate chopping onions with a passion, don't we all. So I'm hoping this extra thing that i'll have to wash after I'm done cooking will be worth it!

I got this collection of posters of vintage cars.
The posters were printed in the 70's.

And lastly this very strange jacket. It's vintage, but doesn't look vintage. It's strange. The fabric is faux leather, and its kind of a sticky rubbery fabric. It fits me perfectly so I'm going to test it out tomorrow. Not sure about it still.

An Olympic swatch watch. Apparently Sydney 2000 memorabilia is the collectibles of the future, so keep your eyes peeled for it.

And lastly this cookbook where you fill in your own recipes. I've been thinking of putting something together for a while as whenever I go to think of something to cook, I can only think of about two things. Whereas if I write them all down I'm sure I'd have heaps to cook, and I might actually cook more often.

She also picked me up a pair of frogskins that I forgot to photograph.

And lastly from me, is something I forgot to post the other day.
I got these 6 plastic cups that I am almost certain are bakelite.
I got the lot for 20c so I didn't mind if they weren't.
I've seen that same mottled plastic in my books, and am sure I've seen the cups in there but when I went to look couldn't find them to save myself so now I'm unsure.

Got bored, got retro pt 2

Two posts in a day! Gee wow!
A friend and I were going out to dinner tonight.
I had time up my sleeve before he came to decide what to wear.
Lately I've been super boring with my outfits.
Jeans, t-shirts and a jacket is as far as I've gone.
I wanted to dress up and bring back the flamboyance I've been lacking, so I went into my wardrobe and stared at it like I do when I have no food in my pantry.
I needed to be inspired, and venture into clothing I normally wouldn't touch because it was on the too extreme pile, or I just hadn't ever experimented with it.
Most of them I still wouldn't wear... but it was fun and brought back a glimmer of motivation to get creative again. Yee

Here goes..

I put this first as it includes one of my finds that I haven't blogged about as they're too hard to photograph.
I've had this velvet dress for a couple of years now.
It's tragically good, shoulder pads and massive bat wings (see my wannabe bat pose? haha) I've never worn it... and then the other day I found these matching velvet boots, and the outfit formed instantly in my head and they were mine.

Just because I wanted to wear my new cowboy boots.
I couldn't find my cowboy necktie. Very disappointed.

I bought this vest at market a few months ago and just love it.
It's so good I just want to hang it on my wall and watch it. It'd look much better than it does with me wearing it!
I just can't seem to do vests.
I can't even seem to photograph well in them, so I took to holding a guitar to block the whole wearing the vest idea.
I wish I could because I have so many that I want to wear!

Such as this one. I LOVE this vest. It's my pride and joy and I'd wear it every day if I could. However... can't do vests!

This is my favorite dress that I own... today. I just love it!

This is an outfit I have collaborated in my head for a while now, but never went through with putting it together. I'm a bit of a fan! Can't you tell by my cheesy grin?

And lastly, this is what I ended up wearing. A little more subdued than the rest.
The skirt is new too, but I just haven't photographed it before. I love pleats.

How now brown lounge!

Hello!
Not much on the Finds front this week!
I did however get my new lounge suite that I told you about in an earlier post!
I have kept the 3 seater in the garage for now, as room in my house is... well there's none. But I do love my new lounge room.
I've named it the Brown Lounge, while my other one is my fantastic plastic lounge.
For obvious reasons.
I love this 'room' now.
When I got my teak veneer wall unit, I instantly felt so much more mature as it's a 'mature' piece of furniture.
I've well past the stage of sharing with room mates, where we'd have milk crates as tables, random cardboard cutouts on the walls, and cheap hand me down couches.
Even though I'd been out of that faze for years, when I got this unit, it was just then that I could actually see that I've come so far. It made me realise my age, maturity, and the changes I've been through.
Ch-ch-ch-ch-Changessss..
D&M Blogger right here!
Anyway, so now with my matching 'mature' couches, I feel super good sitting in there.
I sit down and read my books with my record player going, and gosh it just feels nice!
I feel like I should have some brandy a pipe and a raised eyebrow! Haha.

Obviously some things have been moved now, and some added, but it's still roughly the same.
In replace of the animal mat, I have a bright orange shag rug which looks pretty good.
OH... and I bought a new TV that I get to pick up tomorrow... I can't wait to show you.

I got this lot of vintage sewing patterns for $5.
There's some gorgeous 50's ones in there too! Oh I just love them all.
I really have to pull out the sewing machine again, I'm completely un-motivated.

Hello!
Just a quick post to share what I bought today.
A friend and I did an opshop tour of places I have never been before.
Canterbury, Surrey hills, Kew and Doncaster.
Yep, a few opshops were shopped in today, yet I had another unsuccessful day.
I shouldn't be surprised with the haul I brought home on Sunday.
I did buy one thing...
Well two things.

Egg cozys, ear warmers... same thing yeah? Hahah
Knitted into little chickens, I want to display eggs just so that I can display my egg cozies.

My friend scored a NES complete with 20 million games including the original Zelda, and Zelda II. Very lucky.

It was a good day.

It doesn't really count as any of them as it has toggles down the front.

I'm surprised I can even type. I ate an unrealistic amount of Chinese for dinner.
It's hard to do much at all, breathing and moving is the biggest struggle.
Sigh.

Oh and the other day I went to the aquarium for the first ever time!
The penguins were the most amazing thing I've ever seen!
The Jelly fish made me gag, lots of fish were just um fishy? The sharks and stingrays were pretty cool, but the penguins were the best.
I've never seen them like up close like that.
They looked so fake! Like polystyrene!
I recommend a visit if only to see them!

So today was Market day.
I haven't been in what feels like an age, and I had the best vibes.
I always do well when I have good vibes, so I was very excited.
I'll get right to it..
This is what I found. Eee!

I'll start with my favorite item, and what a bargain!
This pair of vintage leather cowboy boots cost me a whole $2.

From the same lady, for the same price is this Alannah Hill poodle skirt.

These leather boots are beautiful. I can't believe how soft they are.

Never been used 70's pots by Arzberg Germany. Now that's a pretty pot.

'Japan' Tea for two, teapot and two cups. Very kitsch and very cute.
I love that one of the cups features the owls behind.

I love this girl. She appealed to me because of the conceptual story I saw in her.
An innocent fairy tale girl who has some kind of... hidden horror element to her.
It's the eyes that haunted me.
They're the ones that close when you lye her down and open when she stands up, and they some how scare me on her! Which is great because she's not at all scary. Hmm perhaps a bit hard to explain. But I had to have her.

I unfortunately blurred the photo, but you can see the shape.
This is a beautiful dress.
Diamante lined straps, gathered polka dot tulle bodice, nipped waist, and circular skirt.
And it fits. I'm dying to wear this out.

Cute band mice.

5 x genuine snake skin bags, and one other leather bag.
They were all $3 each. Bargain.

This... made my day. I love it.
It's the canisters that the toppings were stored in, in most Milk bars before the squirt bottles were brought in.
Ladles to pour the topping into the milkshake cups, and it still has all of it's original Fowlers glass jars, which in themselves are valuable.
I'm not sure what I'll use it for yet, but it'll definitely be used.
Perhaps as a curiosity object, storing miscellaneous junk in.
Sewing items, pins, misc earrings, who knows. I might even use it for herbs, cocoa, icing sugar and all of those less used ingredients. We'll see.
I believe it'll definitely come into play in my shop for who knows what.
The condition is amazing, no dints or rust, it's very dirty at the moment, but all the labels are in perfect order, no fading or tears. Love this.

Last but not least, I bought something I really shouldn't have.
I already have 3.
Both Mum and Dad shook their heads at me, however Mum soon became a fan as she rode it back to her place.
Look at the colour, look at the colour!! I don't have one in green!
It's a little bit rusty on the chrome, I have some steal wool work ahead of me, but I enjoy doing that.

You should have seen me carrying THAT lot on the train. Pwoah.
Anyone know a good masseuse? My shoulders are dying.

Along with all of the above items, I was also carrying my overnight items, (I stayed at Mums place) and 4 containers of soup that Mum had made for me.
AND... some of the things Mum got me.

This beautiful 'Gone with the wind' book. The cover is so lovely to look at.

Blouses from the 1970's are 90% of the time, made from polyester.
Which means I hardly get to wear them.
This one is one of the few I now have that aren't, so I look forward to wearing this, this winter.

And lastly, she picked up this genuine Chanel purse for $2.
I won't ever use it, as it'll still be assumed it's fake when I pull it out of my bag. That, and I don't really like to flaunt designer labels, but it's definitely nice to have!
As Lisa says, "Your Mum is a thrifting legend" Yes she is.
That's the second real Chanel item she's found me.
The inside is made of a suede like fabric with the Chanel logo embossed. And the previous owner left a 5c coin in it for good luck. My Nan always used to do that for us when she'd give us a bag or purse. I love finding purses with 1 and 2 cent pieces. I feel extra special

And that was my day!
You should see the state of my lounge room right now! Christmas morning. Scrunched up newspaper is taking over the room!

Jackets a plenty!

Hello!
Gosh what a Savers spree I had tonight!
Very very pleased with my finds.

I was so pleased that I felt the need to play dress ups.
This is what I bought.

The item you think you'll like the least, always becomes the favorite.
I don't know why.
With a basket full of fabulous items, I was making my way to the register and these caught my eye.
I didn't even look at them, I just chucked them in the trolley.
Yes I know they're hideous... but SO SO good.
In comparison to some of the jackets that I bought, they really shouldn't be praised so highly, but I can't help it.
Love love these pants.

Cute home made dress... size 18? I don't think so! Well not exactly my size either, but not 18. I love wrongly marked items.

Vintage nautical jacket. Could this be more cute? It comes with a detachable hood that has stars inside, but I feel a little wizardish with it on, so I've detached it.
It comes with a matching tie belt, cinched waist, and the buttons have little anchors on them too!

This jacket... wow. A thick carpet bag like fabric, completely fitted, highly detailed everything, a pleat down the back, peter pan style collar, the buttons the buttons, and it's fully lined. Did I say wow already?
This item didn't have a tag, and I was petrified to ask what the price would be in case it was too expensive. (Curse no tags, I always feel guilty) But it was only $29.99 I was thrilled. Hello Mary Poppins!

I know pyrex stuff is everywhere, but I never seem to see good stuff.
They're always scratched up, missing lids etc.
I've been wanting a good oven proof dish for a while now, so this is perfect.

I also picked up a safari suit for work.

Two other things I picked up this week...

This gorgeous pure wool swing coat with a faux fur collar. It's made in England, and the lining feels like nothing I've ever worn. It also has a sort of pussy bow tie that goes down the front made of the same fabric. It really is beautiful.

This pair of 70's? sunglasses

And this jumpsuit. Made in France. Definitely an outfit that needs some double sided tape. The back is the same as the front, and although not really modeled well, it's actually a massive cowlick, and the pant's are harem style.

I received the two above books for my birthday. I love new books. But most of all I love big thick books. I get the same feeling from them as I do from stationary. That 60's book (Which is the greatest book I have ever ever seen) is so big and thick, that it's close to being my favorite book that I own.

Also, in the mail I received this.
For those who pre-ordered the new Carter's guide, they would receive a free book of choice to the value of $59.95.
If I had have known this book existed, I would have bought it anyway!
It's fantastic. Very informative and interesting.
I can't wait until the new guide comes out!! September apparently!

Happy Birthday too me!
Today I turned 24.
New page for a new age? Let me know what you think.
It sounds strange saying 'turned' 24.
I imagine some kind of old creaky rusted time meter that looks similar to a water meter turning over as soon as midnight hits, and then the imaginary clock strikes 24 in a haunted echoey dong. And then it hits you, 24 is nearly 25, and that 25 is a quarter of 100, and 100 is old!!
As Dad says, "Blink and you'll be 50."
I am beginning to see the truth behind it.
I swear only last year I turned 17.
I miss the years when the year went TOO slowly, and Christmas seemed like it was never ever going to get here.
Now it seems like it's here twice a year, three times a year! As soon as it's gone, it's back again! The years are flying by.
Isn't it about time Coles started bringing in the Christmas merchandise?
Anyway I'm not here to talk about Christmas, it's Birthday time.
So yep, I'm 24.
And being almost quarter of a century means I'm too old for proper presents.
No bikes, or stereos, ipods, or toys.
Going out for dinner seems to be the norm for this in between aged crowd.
So tomorrow night, myself and my a couple of my besties are going out for dinner and icecream!
Two days of birthday for me.

Today I worked, and was sent an absolutely beautiful bunch of flowers from an anonymous sender.

One thing I hate more than anything is when I don't know something...
Like when someone says 'Hey guess what... oh nar I can't tell you'
Killer. It was a well known fact in my family, that when someone knew something I didn't know, that I wanted to know (tongue twister) They'd all sing "I know something you don't know" .. in that whiny playground tune.
So receiving flowers anonymously killed me. All day. I even pulled out my magnifying glass and pipe and played detective, calling the flower shop and then being referred to the internet company who it was booked through, and still no luck.
Anyway, I have never felt so special in my whole life.
Pft flowers, lame I know, but I've never been sent flowers.
In highschool on valentines day you'd always see the 'popular' girls walking home parading their bouquets of flowers and practically rubbing them in your face.
You scowl at them telling yourself 'I don't want the crappy flowers anyway' and for years, every time you see it, the receiving flowers section of your heart dies a little bit more, and then you don't even see the flowers anymore.
Ok I'm exaggerating just a little...
But my point is... having someone walk into the shop today, even though it was my birthday, I automatically thought, ugh wrong address idiot. But they were for ME!!
So I might have cried... happy cried... just a little... and I did say 'might have.'
My dead flower section of my heart blossomed again (good pun?) and I could barely contain my happiness as I got to parade my flowers home on the train. And then I saw this girl scowl at me, and I felt super bad. I wanted to give them to her (No chance) but I did want to.
That was a full circle for me.

Looking forward to my second Birthday tomorrow!

Smells

So I had this horrible experience.
My brother came over for dinner the other day, and dropped that my house smells like old people.
To clarify... It DOESN'T.
It does has some kind of funky smell I admit.
All houses smell different, and my smell was here before I moved in I swear!
He was just being a stirring Brother.
But anyway, you can tell by me still trying to justify it, that it scared me.
What if my house DOES smell like old people?
It surely can't be, because I wash everything before I use it.
Anyway in a panic I took off to Coles and splurged on scented things haha.
I bought air freshener dangly things, I bought glen 20 (not just a cover up)
I also bought the 'just a cover up' spray, and I bought those things that have really bad commercials, you plug them in and they automatically spray every now and then.
It's the only thing I've used of the lot so far, and I can easily say my house smells of nothing else BUT that.
I feel so crook, it's so strong and full on that it's given me an intense headache and I'm feeling nauseous.
On top of that, every time it sprays it makes a pretty loud noise, which scares me half to death every time.
If my coffee was just a little more full earlier today, I would have been in trouble.
I have now turned off the automatic spray and think I'll save it for when my brother comes over haha.
Until then I'll live with my slightly odd smelling house that isn't of old people!

In other news, here are some more of my 'old people' items to add to my 'old people' house.

I got all 3m innovative today, and put up some of those hooks that you pull down the tab when you're done and it's gone.
Please don't tell me your horror stories about these, because it's done now, and I don't want to stress about my bond haha.

I bought this knife set.
I have no idea how good they'll be, but they can't be any worse than the ones I have had for years now.
I think it's part the reason I don't enjoy cooking, because my knives don't even cut.
I use my steak knives instead of my kitchen knives because they cut better.
So I'll give these a go.
I also couldn't leave them there because on the inside is a little note with a taped coin saying 'To not sever ties' which was cute.

These are one of my favorite pairs of shoes.
The fabric is gorgeous and although it doesn't come across in my photos, they sparkle more than any glittered or sequined shoe I've ever seen. Lovely.

These lime green 80's heels are fun too.

This 1950's dress is wow. If only it fit me.
Metal zip, fully lined, home made, and the fabric is so thick and delicious! Mmmm.

And lastly here are a couple of my outfits I've worn in the past week.
I live in my duffle coat, so I apologize for the repetitiveness.

I've been everywhere, man!

So today was my day off.
I decided to take off on a massive opshopping binge, and do the eastern suburbs.
I used to frequent these spots, and would come home with garbage bags full of things, so today I was very excited.
I planned my route. I'm a big planner, it's half the fun!
Traveling via public transport, this is where I went.

Home > Greensborough > Box Hill > Ringwood > Lilydale > Croydon > Ringwood > Bayswater > Ferntree Gully > Box Hill > Greensborough.

Big day.
All together I went to 21 opshops.
TWENTY ONE.
Who would have thought that was even physically possible in one day, never mind adding the whole public transport element to it.
I bet you're pretty keen to see what I picked up!
Would you believe me if I told you that I bought absolutely nothing?
Well nothing for me anyway. I bought a costume for work but that's not included.
I got back to Greensborough feeling very sorry for myself, so reverted to Savers to try to remove the pout that had stuck pretty firmly to my face.
I didn't buy much, but at least I got a couple of things.

I'm always on the look out for these cute, or in this case kind of scary, plastic toys. Deb from Angel Wings and Hearts seems to pick them up like they're as common as 'Scream' on VHS is.
I'm always very very jealous!! I was oh so excited when I found this guy.

Another set of scales. I don't have a set like this though.
These are to be mounted onto a wall, and the cover flips down to become the (not sure of word) plate?

This bath robe is fabulous! It's new vintage, and so cute I just adore it.

I also got a pair of bathers and a black dress that was torture to photograph so I'm just going to wear it and show you then... well the dress anyway.

I really had no need to venture out of my territory today.
I guess I can tell myself that if I hadn't have gone, I wouldn't have known.
A large grudge is being held against the eastern suburbs and I don't see it budging for quite some time.

Oh and Lilydale!! My favorite opshop there now has a dealer from Camberwell come down to price all of their stock. They have some really great items, but they're at just below antique shop prices. Not a bargain in site.

Completely off the subject, last time I went to Dad's new house, he showed me this.

This was our back door key from Marysville. I asked if I could have it because I can't think of anything that could represent everything that has happened more than a key. I'm so glad I have it.
I still haven't been back yet. I think I want to now, but I'm still super scared.
My Dad and Brother have been and found a few things. They thankfully found Dad's dad's, and Grandpa's war medals, some clay things we made in highschool, a knife that our Grandpa made, and a few other random bits and pieces.
Apparently there were little bits of Santa's and other Christmas decorations too!

My key is one of my most favorite and treasured things, so I thought I'd show you, and give you a little update on it all.

Well my well walked legs are ready for bed.
It's almost time to unpack my electric blanket I think! Mmmmmmmmmmmmm.

My week of finds.

What a big week it's been!
Thankyou all for your lovely messages and comments!
It's also been a big week in the opshopping world.
Here are some of the things I've picked up over the past week or so.

These West German vases are becoming harder and harder to find, I remember seeing them in opshops as commonly as you see 'made in china' dolphin figurines now days.
I only own one of these vases, the more common orange and brown type.
I don't collect them, but if I can pick them up cheaply I won't hesitate as I they'll continue to get more and more valuable, as they have great 'retro' appeal.
Mum was the one with the sharp eye who saw this being put into her local opshops window.
It seems every time I see her I say a new 'MUM! Keep your eyes open for *insert item here*'
Which has proved to be beneficial, because she finds space to store all of my nags, and always finds me winner bargains.
This vase is pretty big.
I'm very good at life, and have lost my tape measure, so I've measured it in a new universal measurement called 'the DVD.' It's just under 2 DVD cases tall.
It's lime green and two different browns. It's actually quite nice.

Mum also bought me the fabric it stands infront of.
Not sure what I'll make out of it just yet as it's stretchy so hmmmm.

This is a glass vase I picked up at my BOSSES opshop.
She regularly comes into work with all these things to show off from there.
I am especially jealous of one of her coffee tables.
I never get to go there as it's not on a public transport route, however whilst driving with a friend, I asked if we could stop and picked up this vase.
I really like it. It felt good to find something that'd make her jealous from her territory.

Shoes.

I love love love reading through old magazines.
All of the advertisements, and articles are so very different from today.
They're so entertaining, and the pictures are beautiful.
The top one is from 1964, and the other two are from 1966 and 1976.

So very cute.

This is a very cute home made dress. It has a lovely pleat down the front, fits me like a dream, and is something different. Big fan.

Also in the clothing department was this 1950's evening gown. It's so very well made. A good steam will bring it up a treat.

Mum picked me up these childrens handkerchiefs. My collection grows.

My question for you is, what on earth would you put in these mini pyrex mugs?
I bought them whilst out with my cousin Amanda, and all we could think was perhaps coffee shots, or mini chocolate puddings? Or perhaps are they childrens mugs? No idea. I'm going to make mini self sauce chocolate puddings in them. YUM.

And lastly is something that I have no idea about. These are three prints from well known Dickens books. Oliver, David Copperfield, and Great Expectations.
I'm hopeless when it comes to knowing about prints because... well it's a print!
It's not a painting that an artist has painted for 3 years and there is only one of. It may have been printed 39482394 thousand times, making it valueless.
However the J H Lynch prints are selling for hundreds.
When I showed one to my Dad, he said, "Why do you want one of those Patricia? They're at every second stall at carboot sales" Well sure maybe once, but not now.
Maybe they were printed 39482394 thousand times, and so no one thought they'd ever be worth anything so everyone binned them, leaving not many left, making them valuable. Hmm I don't know.
So basically, I have no idea about prints.
I bought these anyway because I like anything from my childhood, and Oliver was a good part in it.
they were also cheap, and I don't mind making mistakes on cheap things that I like.

In other news, this whole digital TV business really hasn't catered for people who don't want an ugly set top box in their house, or want to watch TV on their retro TV's.
When they completely get rid of normal TV, I won't be a happy girl.

In other other news, I was interviewed on the radio yesterday! Hahha.
I have never been so nervous. Everyone said it went okay, so fewf!

"How I crashed Logies in $3 dress"

WOW..
I have never said 'Oh my god' more times in my life.
What an absolutely BAZAAR day!
So this morning I got an email from MX newspaper asking if they could interview me about the whole Logies stint.
I thought we'd get a little section in the 'What in weird' section or something.
Now that would have been a pretty cool way to end the already hilarious episode in our lives.
Hanna, the journalist asked me some questions on the telephone, and then told me a photographer was coming by work to take a photo for the paper.
Hmmm perhaps it was a page four article or something, if they want yet another photo!
I was absolutely shaking in my boots.
I did SO many laps of work breathing deeply trying to relax, constantly cracking up laughing (by myself) and 'Oh my god' was on repeat.
So the lovely photographer came.
She set up her gear and asked me to do some poses for her.
I asked her what was going on with it all, and she dropped that it going to be on the FRONT PAGE.
I nearly died. OH... MY...GOD.
I couldn't wait to get into the city to get a copy of it!
After it was out, I received never ending messages and phonecalls!
My dad thinks I'm a lunatic! Hahaha.
I called my Mum and told her to go down to the train station at around 6pm and get one out of the bin.
She was so embarrassed to be seen rummaging in the garbage but is glad she did!
She is so proud.
She picked up a few more bin copies to give to her friends too!

So catching the train home was one of the most interesting and embarrassing scenarios of my life.
My face was EVERYWHERE.
E V E R Y W H E R E.
I couldn't count the amount of people who looked down, then up, then down, then up at me.
Every single time I burst out laughing... by myself... on a very full train.
One time I was holding back laughter so much that I actually spat when I cracked.
I was a deep shade of red that whole train trip.
It was HILARIOUS.

Trish's 'Night of Nights' - Crashing the 2009 Logie Awards

So last night myself and two close friends, Chris and Clare, crashed the Logies.

It was our 5th and probably last year doing so, and we had the greatest night.
This year we were more prepared than ever. We had made up Logies wrist bands in all colours, based on previous years, we knew the routes and the cover stories, we were oompaloompa'dly spray tanned and beautified, and ready to go.
However this time, we uncovered a major disaster.
Thanks to the recession (we presume) The channel 9 celebration room that was usually filled with delicious buffet meals, unlimited alcohol, luxurious couches, staff who walked around topping up your champagne, also a massive television screen to keep up to date with the happenings of the Logies, was gone. GONE.
That was the room that was the lead to the logies and the after party and it was GONE.
Not a person in site.
We freaked out and had to revert to our oldschool ways re-exploring our changed territory.
We didn't go as far as using fire escapes and sneaking through kitchens... again, we went back to where it used to be and sat down to strategise.
Two crown staff walked by, and we asked if they knew where the room had moved to (Completely in character of course) They made a phone call and told us where it was. We knew it was inaccessible to us without the passes we needed.
So I asked one of the ladies if she could take us there.
Chris and Clare freaked out, knowing she was going to take us to a place we weren't allowed, and where we'd be asked for our passes that we didn't have, (We couldn't use our fake ones yet because we hadn't seen anyone else's to pull out the correct colour), and we'd get kicked out.
We still played along because we couldn't back out now or that'd look suss too!
Luckily, the Crown lady took charge, taking us straight through two barriers of security by simply flashing her pass, and we were in.
We sat in the very... well shit new channel 9 celebrations room, which was foodless, soft drink bottles were the only drinks available and a tiny tiny TV screen similar to those the teachers would wheel in, in highschool to watch the Logies on. Hmf. This was all a bit crappy.
We wandered around a bit, during the commercials we popped our heads into the event, and then finally the Logies ended.
AFTERPARTY!
The best bit.
Finally canapes and open bar.
Much better.
It was a great night after all.

The first time we went was 5 years ago, when four of us were down at Riverside skate park in skinny jeans and band t-shirts. We thought it'd be funny to go and see if we could see anyone we 'knew'.
It was fate that we went. I happened to recognize one of the security guards at the door! I asked him how we could get in. He said "Well I can't let you in... but if you were to go to level 2 and go down the stairs you may find another entry *nudge nudge*"
So off we went, and we walked right into the actual Logies ceremony in skinny jeans and band tshirts. Hilarious. Sure we were kicked out straight away. We were sent down the escalators where masses amounts of fans were waiting to cop a glimpse of the people they love on TV.
And then down we come.
We were nearly wetting ourselves.
For the following four years, we dolled up, and explored until we mastered the art of sneaking into the Logies. It was never ever as easy as the first time.
Especially this year.
Each year we got better, got further, found out more about the workings of crown, and the past two years have been our best. We couldn't have done better.

And then there's this year.

I wore a beautiful home made vintage gown.
I bought it for $3.60, and my boss at the costume shop tailored it to fit me perfectly. I'm so grateful, she did a dream job. It was nice to have her be apart of my excitement too!
I've never held or worn such a beautiful dress, the weight of it, the work gone into it, all the bead work, the gathering, and the shear amount of fabric in the gown is just... stunning. Apparently I look rather roman goddessy! I'll accept that!
My bag and necklace are borrowed from my boss! They're all vintage, and they match like they were designed for the dress.

Yes... yes that's Drazic!

This was Chris's goal for the night, to meet Ruby Rose, and it came true.
He was a very happy boy.

And I'm leaving last my two most favorite meetings.
Both of whom I embarrassed myself infront of.
Dear dear me.

Dieter Brummer was there. Now Dieter Brummer was to me, like he was to thousands of other Primary school girls (kind of wrong really) their one true love.
If it wasn't Dieter, it was JTT's face who covered their school books and with I LOVE JTT/DIETER all over their pencil cases.
We were getting a photo with Kate Ritchy when I turned around and did a real life loud gasp.
I ignored Kate and pointed at Dieter and said Oh my gosh please please don't go anywhere I need to chat to you. (Already sounding like a psycho freak fan.. great.) My friend Clare was screwing up her nose thinking 'Wtf Trish, who is that creepy looking guy and why do you want a photo with him?'
So we finished with Kate, no follow up conversation was said, as I was in a rush. Clare went to jump in the photo with the anonymous stranger, and I scowled and firmly said 'JUST ME'
She then realised the importance. "OH MY GOD DIETER BRUMMER!!!" She withdrew and very excitedly took the photo for me. Somehow during that small time I had him within talking distance, I happened to blurt that I loved him in primary school.. loved.. and that I wished I was Angel, and how I had almost every TV HITS poster of him on my wall. Yep so he thought I was nuts. Maybe I am. I hang my head in shame.

And lastly, the other two people whom I embarrassed myself infront of.
I again gasped as I met Adrian and Gordon from my favorite show 'Collectors'
It was a bit hard to hear, but I do remember really trying to get across that I am opening my own collectibles/vintage shop, and how they're a great influence and have always wanted to meet them and pick their brains for knowledge.
Ok so not as bad as the Dieter Brummer experience, but I do remember being a little intense.
They were chatting with Kerri Armstrong (A well known Australian actress in comparison to the Collectors men) and I didn't give her a look. Whoops.
She took the photo of us all, and she said I looked like a beautiful Roman goddess, I said thankyou, and turned to Adrian and with a cheesy smile said "It's Vintage Couture!!" (which it's not, but I was trying to make out I was cool in the collectors world... oh dear.)
I thanked them and walked away a little bit giddy, but very very embarrassed.
It was an 'I carried a watermelon' incident.
Still very glad I met them.

And as we left, and walked down those escalators that we did the very first year in hysterics, we were waved at, clapped, and highfived by the people that lined the super long walkway to the exit. HILARIOUS.

And that was my Sunday night.

I really don't enjoy being orange.
I'm pastey proud.
However the best way to sneak into any event is, 'if you look the part, you are the part.' And orange is their part. Sigh.

We've all heard that story from a friend of a friend who found that amazing item on the side of the road.
And then for days afterwards you spend rubbernecking to try to find your own sweet find, but never find anything that can compare.

However my kind of rubbernecking is usually fast paced 180 degree head jolts in a speeding car, when a pile of branches, rotting doors, seatless computer chairs, and broken down whitegoods are piled up on the side of the road.
I've downpatted my scanning to under a second as I have no control of the car as I'm never driving, and no one ever has the patience or interest in fossicking through interesting piles of legal litter. (Well illegal to go through but pft)

The only things I've ever picked up off the side of the road are my bedside tables (Timber laminex, very 70's) And years ago, when I was in a share house with a friend, we went and spent the night collecting bits from all over Richmond and built a loungeroom in our carport, including lamps, rugs, tables, telephones, waffle machines? guitars, couches, oh the list goes on. Amazing fun.

Anyway, I've lost my train of thought. Ummm

Yeah, so this friend of a friend who found this amazing item on the side of the road.

About a month ago my boss calls me with this smug tone in her voice. And she wasn't even calling me in 'free time' so I knew something was up.
"Trish, guess what I picked up on the side of the road?"
I didn't want to know. I really didn't.
No... I did.
"One of those circular bar things!"
"Not a Kartell?"
"I don't know I didn't look at it properly"
"It's a Kartell" (The tone in my voice is currently very 'Daria')
My boss started to laugh at the success of how jealous she had just made me.
(We have jealousy wars. Whoever can make the other the most jealous that day has the best day. A very bitchy and hurtful game.... unless you win. The time I got a large Murano vase was a highpoint in my life)

She collects to sell to collectibles stores, so I knew that's where it'd go.

UNTIL TODAY.

I had brought in a safari suit and kaftan to sell to her to hire out for the shop, and asked if I could buy the Kartell from her for whatever cost the collectibles stores offered her, so instead (Something that hadn't even crossed my mind dah) we did a swap! Kartell for clothes.

I'm a very happy girl, and even though it wasn't me personally who had that heart stopping moment when I found something other than a massive broken TV set on the side of a road, I still had the heart stopping moment when my boss did, and again when I got it as MINE!

ZING!

I've always wanted to own something by Kartell. Although it's not the most valuable collectible in the world, it's still something I've desired for a while now.
Next thing on my list is a Whitefriars drunken bricklayer vase. It may take me a lifetime but I will one day own one!

Also, check out the new lounge suite I'm getting! I got an add on Facebook from a girl I used to go to highschool with who got given this LOVELY suite, and lucky for me it's not her style, she knew I liked all the retro stuff so asked if I'd be interested!

And I'm getting the little matching magazine rack next to it too!
Where I'm going to put it in my chockablock house is yet to be decided. But it will fit!

I wish I didn't have such a love for furniture.

Technology

If you were to walk into my house tomorrow, there would be one thing that you'd see as odd.
Amongst a house made up solely of retro goods, there is a giant futuristic iMac sitting on my dressing table.
In any other house it wouldn't look out of place.
I've said a few times that I don't like buying new things, like the look of new things, or the quality of new things, however when it comes to technology, I am a hypocrite.
I am a technerd.
I love modern technology, and more importantly, I love Apple.
My iMac is now 3 years old, and it was time for me to upgrade.
I have been desiring the portability of a laptop for a while now, as I have a lot of plans up my sleeve for which a laptop would suit me SO much better than the iMac.
Now was a rather appropriate time for the Rudd bonus to deposit into my account!
My dear reliable iMac has been retired to a backup device and my TV set, and my new Aluminum MacBook has taken it's place.
I'm in love.
It's so good to have a laptop again.
